@benlcollins Thanks Ben for sharing this explanation about the difference between QUERY and CHOOSECOL. It was the first thing I though when reading your newsletter.

One advantage CHOOSECOLS has over QUERY for selecting columns is that ALL your links propagate through the formula. The QUERY turns titled links into text, whereas CHOOSECOLS correctly interprets them.

@benlcollins Ben, I love the use of grouping columns, but found it problematic when sharing a Google Sheet as it is not unique to the user.

๐Ÿ’ก Quick #GoogleSheets tip today! Highlight several rows (or columns) by clicking on their numbers (or letters), right click and choose to Group rows (or columns). This adds a button, which you can toggle to show/hide these grouped rows (or columns).

@DalePearce3 Sorry, that makes more sense going via Wycheproof. I only did that once in my time living in Swan Hill, felt the drive was already long enough when I'd head back down to Melbourne. Imagine the Little Murray River isn't so little at the moment too.

@mrkrndvs Up the Calder from Bendigo, through Charlton and Wycheproof, turn right at Dumosa then in through Lalbert. Adds 40 minutes. The Loddon Valley Hwy is open through Kerang but water issues around Lake Charm at present, will hopefully be clear soon.

Pals, I make nice enough roast potatoes, in that itโ€™s hard to go wrong with the concept of potatoes + oil + seasoning + oven, but need to up my game. How do you make yours?

@DalePearce3 We spent some time around Albury over the weekend. It was fascinating to see so much water. It was a contrast to the river I experienced while living in Swan Hill a few years ago when it was quite low.

@lasic @insidestorymag As much as I agree what Ashenden is saying, I wonder if we are always already 'inside the box'? I also worry about the metaphor of the 'beached whale' as some whales do not get off the beach and are buried, or left to decay, providing food for opportunistic seagulls and sharks

@doctorow @EFF @doctorow what excites me about the world you imagine in this paper is the control and nuance over such things as feeds. Personally, I would be just grateful to be able to follow updates from sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin via RSS, rather than having to log in.

Cory Doctorow NO LONGER ON TWIT TER
Facebook users claim to hate the service, but they keep using it, leading many to describe Facebook as "addictive." But there's a simpler explanation: people keep using Facebook though they hate it because they don't want to lose their connections to the *people* they love. 1/

Back in the 70s, Utrecht covered a chunk of its downtown canal -- so they could make a highway Then recently they reversed it, and brought the canal *back* It revivified that strip of downtown! The trend here: "Rewilding" cities clivethompson.medium.com/rewilding-citiโ€ฆ

Enjoyed listening to Tom Tilley's memoir. What I found interesting was the discussion of connection and community throughout. Although the church connections shriveled up, connection to Mudgee seemed to always stay strong. This felt as much to do with place as the people in it.

For the past two years Iโ€™ve been pouring my time and soul into a memoir about my childhood in a pentecostal sect. Iโ€™m hoping it inspires anyone who grew up questioning the life they inherited. Hereโ€™s the cover, pre-orders@ bit.ly/3nfkMNz @HarperCollinsAU @ReadABCBooks
