Just realised…X hasn’t seen this news…
After 22 years… in 30 days, I’ll be hugging my fellow Harlequin Ichthyosis bestie who I’ve not seen since I was 9. Ooh and throwing in a skin conference too…
@mui_thomas@JBsTwoCents I completely understand. Adoption is the best option in your situation and others who have genetic issues. It’s not OK to create a life that the plan to destroy it if it has a disability.
I've been putting off a call that I am determined to make today.
Because both Adam and I carry the genetic mutation that caused Mia's lissencephaly, if we were to conceive naturally, there's a 25% chance we would have another baby with this terminal illness. This means that if we wanted to have a kid biologically, we need to go the IVF route in order to test the embryos for this pathogenic genetic variant.
And while our consultation went well (really well! I have many eggs for being old!), I've been scared to call and discuss the estimated cost because I know it's going to be astronomical and prohibitive.
But my heart feels all kinds of things thinking about another person who will adore Mia, who will add joy and hope to our family. Selfishly, I want to experience being a mom-- just a mom-- and not have that threaded together with full-time caregiver. And I think it's a disservice to this world for my husband, an absolutely incredible father, to love and raise only one baby.
So I haven't been ready to defer the dream yet, but I'm going to call today. Because it's Wednesday, and on Wednesday we do hard things.
Thanks for coming on this journey with us.
@DCBelleonWheels@JBsTwoCents I have a severe genetic skin disorder and while I am just about okay with the fact after 31 years on this planet, I would not submit any child of mine to the same fate I have. Its rough. If I have a baby, I would either adopt or go down the IVF route as well.
@JBsTwoCents I get why the information is needed, but I don’t understand why you would need to go to the IVF route. Would you not allow a child to be born if it was found to have the anomaly before implantation?
@CherryMorrello Sending your family and loved ones comfort during this difficult time. I first got to know about Tracey’s tweets by chance a few months ago. Always with sage words that I’m sure we will all be living by. 🙏🏻
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Tracey Morroll (nee Sutherland)(known as @cherrymorrello on X/Twitter) on Monday 8th January 2024.
Just had a call from Anne's care home. They're awaiting an ambulance to take her to Wishaw General A&E. She's got a chest infection & she's significantly dehydrated because she won't take fluids or her antibiotics. She'll get intravenous fluids at A&E. I'm very worried about her.

I’ve had some pretty shitty comments and whatnot on my social media this week. I recognise I cannot control others, but it bothers me that people are allowed to do this and I’m just sitting there, taking it all without a fight. That’s not right.
