@nigelrudd @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell Caffeine is pretty addictive too. People continue doing it even though it causes them harm. Given the benefits Im in favour of moderating its use and being conscious of its true nature too

New Study: Nicotine vapes are not as dependence-forming as cigarettes. Who knew? The authors are VERY good scientists, but continue to use the 1990s-era stigmatizing term "addictive." "Addiction among vapers appears to be lower than that observed among smokers." journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/14…

@ChaunceyGardner @nigelrudd @grove_mitchell NRT is obviously way safer than smoking but it should only be a step in the direction of full freedom from nicotine. If you knew of such a way to would you not take or advocate for it?

@nigelrudd @Adamnogender @grove_mitchell If these numbers are right, and I believe they ARE good and evidence-based estimates of "harm," the very low harm products at the bottom are VASTLY safer than alcohol. So it is not logical to tax and regulate them the same way we tax and regulate deadly cigarettes.

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell We’ll have to agree to disagree on the balance of positives vs negatives. The negatives for vaping are wildly exaggerated in the press and by financially motivated anti-vapers. Real world data and evidence from neutral medical bodies (like the RCP) doesn’t support that hysteria.

Yes, I enjoy one or two coffees a day even though it messes with my tummy. Vaping is similar in some respects like you say but there are some differences too. The balance between positives and negatives in one reason. Another matter is the degree of choice. As I preposed the positives are illusionary, the negatives understated and given all this the degree of choice is minimal. Its much better than smoking but still better without. Ive been going on about it to highlight that there are additional ways to be totally free of any of it. Thats providing even more choices for those who feel inclined to look into it. I think such information and the additional options such info opens up are very valuable and sadly not so widely known :)

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell It is interesting but as I said before, it’s no different to any other choice we make like drinking alcohol or coffee. Neither is good for us, but many (probably including you) choose to do it. Why do you believe vaping is any different?

Yes, smoking is disgusting but a smoker will block that out inorder to get their next dose. The thought of going without freaks them out so they go into denial. And Ive already addressed how and why it appears to be enjoyable. Anyway, as per that link you now know the name of a method that addresses the psycholigucal stuff so you can refer to that some other time if you feel so inclined. Its an interesting subject to look into anyway ... :)

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell All presume that nicotine users WANT to stop using nicotine. Im sure many do, but I’m equally sure many don’t. All the studies about using nicotine being enjoyable are heavily biased towards smoking. Smoking has a fairly unpleasant taste so the “enjoyment” is the nicotine fix.

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell Which is exactly why I switched to vaping liquids without nicotine, for several months. It’s much easier to stop using nicotine as a vaper than as a smoker. You have experience of being a smoker, I have experience of both smoking & vaping. I know. You think you know.

I used to smoke so remember this. There is a sense of enjoyment however it is an illusion. A coffee or a beer provides genuine enjoyment. The apparent enjoyment that occours with a dose of nicotine is primarily the ending of the nagging preoccupation of wanting it. Its only when you get your dose can you relax and go back to your coffee or beer. Check this out: x.com/i/grok/share/1… Good luck

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell Absolute codswallop. I enjoy vaping exactly as I enjoy coffee or a beer, there’s no “so called” about it. Over the last 12 years I’ve experimented with and without nicotine, and though I enjoy both, I prefer with.

You are so called 'free' to so called 'enjoy' it. No one is forcing you to stop not that that would work anyway. It is however useful to look into the whole issue as many people would like to be free of it, there are significant drawbacks, those hooked are being exploited and there isnt any actual enjoyement there if you take a closer look at how you feel when you get a dose.

@Adamnogender @ChaunceyGardner @grove_mitchell So nicotine isn’t as addictive as people think, and vaping removes the harmful compounds caused by combustion. So if I enjoy vaping, why should I want to give it up? Why can’t I enjoy vaping like others enjoy a drink, or a coffee just to conform with your ideal and pay you?

Ok, that was abit presumptious for me to say that. There is however alot of money sloshing about from profits re selling NRT and Im sure some of it is directed towards those casually promoting it. I was a smoker for 15 years and with the correct advice stopped immediately without any withdrawal whatsover. Also, having practiced myself for over ten years I know its possible for many people to do likewise. Although nicotine plays an important part its not the main componant keeping people hooked. Its mostly misconceptions regarding difficulty or benefit. One of the biggest misconceptions regarding difficulty is that nicotine causes any significant withdrawal at all. It doesnt when people interpret it correctly. This is why I get stroppy with those promoting NRT. Firstly, because theyre often addicts themselves and secondly because they often benefit one way or another by keeping others hooked. Arnt you interested in reserching ways to stop all of it entirely? Surely, that would be time better spent

@Alan_Beard1 @Algore09algor Sadly she will think it’s just unpopular. It won’t even occur to her that she’s wrong. I don’t care that she doesn’t like vaping, that’s her prerogative. It’s the lies and disinformation she hides her dislike behind that I find offensive.

Another horrible plume of toxic smoke engulfed me today... Is it time to ban vaping in public places? Formaldehyde, heavy metals, ultra fine particles ..scientists call it 'third-hand exposure' ... #vaping #secondhandsmoke #publicban?
