@Jek_Korpen @rick_boers12490 I understand the broader strokes of your argument, I just don't agree with them. There are certain games and genres that get close to the full experience, but outside of kinetic novels, you don't ever get the full picture without playing it. It's just different, but that's okay.

rare to see someone who understands the concept of compromise. Some games NEED to be played to be understood, a playthrough or a screenshare simply can not do them justice. and i hate seeing this take constantly be bullied with "muh immersion" memes. I WANNA show s.t.a.l.k.e.r or dark souls to my friends but i KNOW they wont feel what *i* feel when only seeing it. And other games, you can really just get the full experience through video. and THAT keeps getting dogged on with larping accusations. pretty sure i can watch a playthrough of "the last of us" and get the full picture, thats just an inherent thing about story driven games

i do not understand the YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY PLAY A GAME TO UNDERSTAND IT THATS THE ONLY WAY discussion. Like dude i think it depends

@DreadBirate @LRSerling It never "used to be." It was gold-star Mormons who wanted to prove they were even more holy that went above and beyond the basic rules. It has never been a codified rule, it has never been anything but basic social pressure

@risnerking I witnessed an exchange about obsession from teens at work the other day "I heard that movie has, like, tons of themes and stuff." "yeah, it's really good, it's got crazy allegory"

Obsession is a really good movie but unfortunately it's a movie that makes dumb people feel really smart for seeing very obvious and intentional meanings so the past few weeks of "discourse" have been really painful

@AJBurlap I agree that the qt is stupid, but, I'm sorry, the wish did not work exactly as intended. It's not a fucked up wish because he had no reason to believe it worked that way; it's the same as wishing on a star or candles. The problem is how he treated her knowing it was involuntary.

The whole point of this very obvious and on-the-nose film is that the wish worked exactly as intended but it was just a really fucked up thing for him to wish in the first place. I don't know how much more clearly they could have spelled that out.

I don't think Obsession is a masterpiece by any means but like can we please at least criticize the movie in a way that actually makes sense. "It fails at being a monkey's paw story" is a very nonsensical critique for a film that is very explicitly not a monkey's paw story.
Dan@FateSailor

One thing about Obsession is that it fails at being a monkey's paw story. There are no didn’t-think-this-through logical consequences of the phrasing of the wish. The wish just turns her generically horror movie crazy.

@MasterSwrdRemix The big difference is that 15 years ago, big studios were releasing games on a 2-3 year cycle, so when E3 rolled around, most studios either had a new announcement or a release trailer to show off. Now all the big names have 7+ year dev cycles, it's less exciting new stuff.

if this rated r horror movie based on a creepypasta beats the second week of star wars, there’s going to be the craziest hollywood reporter headlines of all time in the next few months. “ron howard circling untitled ben drowned project, jacob elordi attached”

At 20 years old, Kane Parsons may become the youngest filmmaker to have a film #1 at the box office in its opening weekend. ‘BACKROOMS’ is tracking for a $40M-$50M opening.

@emilykmay "I don't dream of labor" yes you do, you just don't dream of being one of the ones doing it. The books you read and the food you eat and the clothes you wear weren't wild-grown. Everything requires labor and if you are only willing to return that labor for yourself, you're bad.

we have got to stop saying things like "I don't dream of labor" when asked about a "dream job" or getting all bent out of shape by the phrase "earning a living." as long as humans have been around, they have had to work to survive under a wide variety of different systems, some much more exploitative than others. our current system is flawed and should continue be improved upon, but oh my god some of you just don't want to do anything.

@Frank66_ @OldWest1453 Don't "throw out random numbers" and expect to have a salient point that stands up to scrutiny. The numbers are the hard information that backs up what it is that people feel in their gut.

Obviously I threw out random numbers. Because the exact prices don’t matter. everyone else gets the point Except for the handful of boomers in these replies, who are sitting here nitpicking at $11.49 and $28 as if it changes the point in any way. I could have said $6.89 and $38 and the point remains. Everyone with a brain can comprehend the point without pontificating on the example numbers

This is 100% accurate. The boomer says “why are young people paying $28 for lunch? THATS why you’re struggling” The same boomer, would go out to eat and get the same meal for $11.49, in his day The boomer spending $28 on lunch, in his day, would have been extravagant spending. The boomer cannot comprehend that the same $11.49 sandwich, drink, and fries he would get on his lunch break, now costs $28 They simply cannot comprehend it. Boomers can’t conceptualize the inflation that they themselves created
Third Worldist Crisprtek@CollapseAnime

Going out to eat used to be cheap, that's the thing nobody wants to mention. Boomers went out to eat all the time while paying mortgage and buying toys and going on vacation.

@reeceollld As a kid, you learned to read analog clocks and you went home and saw them in your own living room, public spaces, activity centers. You continued using them and it became faster and easier with exposure. Now they learn it and never see them so the knowledge immediately atrophies

@reeceollld I think that is a rare case where that argument doesn't work. They do teach kids analog time in schools. The problem is that the world doesn't reinforce the need to learn it the same way it used to. They teach trig functions in high school but I bet the median person forgets them

@Zadrias6386 @Chromatic_Blue @catgirlprostate Yes, I recognize that hydrocarbons are definitionaly organic. Fire is a specific chemical reaction that uses hydrocarbons and oxygen to produce CO2 and H2O. You can have violent or visible exothermic reactions without organic molecules, but that's not fire.
