BREAKING: US voted against Ukraine's UN resolution which branded Russia the "aggressor" and demanded withdrawal of its troops from borders. US on list of 18 nations also including Russia, Iran and North Korea to vote against. China abstained. UK and most European nations among 93 states to back Ukrainian resolution which passed.

@DAaronovitch And those exact same attitudes from the exact same class are why so much abuse at boarding schools was (and likely still is) covered up/ignored/downplayed. No-one in that sector (other than a few perpetrators in jail) has stood up to take the rap for this like Welby has had to.

@NickCohen4 Any more than we can ever appease the hard-core brexiteers. The grievances are the fuel (preferably crude oil or gas for them) that operate the entire enterprise, and so new ones must be fracked and mined for, until the planet shuts down or the people rise up.

@SamiraAhmedUK I'm sorry, but never surprised, to say that private boarding schools consistently put reputation ahead of safe-guarding. My 'prep' (primary) boarding school had several predatory masters, hiding in plain sight. One became second master & had a glowing obit in the Telegraph. Vile.

@CeliaRichards0n 16/17 yrs ago, when Chatsworth was hosting annual outdoor contemporary sculpture exhibitions with Sotheby's, the USA Jane Austen Society visited. In front of the house was a 40+ft white Marc Quinn sculpure of a baby. To say they were dismayed...no Mr Darcy cosplaying for them.

Ok someone just told me that ladies would ‘take the waters’ at Mr Darcy’s lake after the BBC series. Like going to the waters edge and dunking bottles in it to take home. I grew up in a very Roman Catholic house with Lourdes water everywhere and I’m totally vibing off this.
