Before 2007, Gaza was one of the world’s major exporters of roses and flowers. Rafah was known as the City of Flowers. The blockade and destruction of farmland ended it all.

Today is Land Day. 50 years ago today, six un-armed Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces and more than 100 were injured during protests against Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land. Palestinians observe today by holding protest marches and planting olive trees.
