MINIMUM PAY Standard Bank and Absa have raised their minimum monthly pay to above R22,000 following a record-breaking 2025. Standard Bank reported headline earnings of R49.2bn, while Absa delivered R24.8bn, underpinning their ability to lift entry-level remuneration. The increases place banking sector minimum pay at roughly 18 times the national minimum wage of R30.23 per hour, which was adjusted just a month ago, highlighting a widening gap between financial services and the broader labour market.
