I drew for Hemispheres numerous times. The budget was decent and I enjoyed working with the art team. If a magazine like Hemispheres, which used to be a reliable spot for good art opportunities, is willing to ruin its reputation to save a buck, others will follow. Sad day.

I have been working with @Wacom for decades and know people in the company personally. They love art/artists, have always supported them, commissioned work, provided them a platform, etc.
My guess is a couple of people in marketing messed up (badly). Benefit of the doubt.
