A fantastic result for life, for compassion and for the most vulnerable. Not because of lobbying or vested interests but because people care. We now need to properly fund excellent palliative care.
Scottish Parliament@ScotParl

Supporters of the State Suicide Service in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 are saying that those who have lost their human dignity should be helped to kill themselves. This isn't just cruel - it is based on a lie. No one lacks human dignity, because human dignity is inherent. Nothing can take it away.

I sincerely hope we wake up tomorrow morning to a Scotland that prioritises care over killing, where doctors can be trusted to ‘first do no harm’, where hospices and care homes are not forced to close because they object to helping people to kill themselves, and where the poorest and most vulnerable are not coerced to choose death. That’s a caring, compassionate, dignified Scotland. That’s my Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In Canada, suicide legislation has led to a pitiless terrain where the sick and vulnerable are being pressed into decisions made by cost-conscious health bodies: last month’s column on the Assisted Dying bill heraldscotland.com/politics/holyr…

Care Not Killing Scotland
Three main things MSPs will be thinking about tomorrow: 1) Coercion of vulnerable groups, 2) patient trust in doctors when doctors are allowed to initiate conversations about assisted suicide, and 3) the removal of conscientious objection. @ShonaHaslam on @ScotlandTonight

Nobody thinks this bill is safe. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Not the First Minister. Not the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Not Disability groups. Not doctors. No one thinks it’s a good idea to let the NHS kill patients. 💉👇

Wales winning a 6Nations home match for the 1st time in 4 years prompts this update of Monday's post: Wales who lost to England who lost to Ireland who lost to France who lost to Scotland who lost to Italy who lost to Wales. To paraphrase Sir Alex: Six Nations rugby? Bloody hell

Wales have discovered what it takes to walk through a storm with the courage to ensure they would never walk alone. Steve Tandy deserves huge credit for their revival post-Twickenham, inspiring a shattered squad to find 'at the end of a storm there's a golden sky.' 👏🏼 👏🏼

There are many reasons for MSPs to vote No to the McArthur assisted suicide bill, but few more important than the fact that they have refused to close the loophole that could allow those with eating disorders to be offered assisted suicide.
The Other Half@OtherHalfOrg

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 MSPs are about to hold the final vote on a Bill that will legalise assisted dying for patients with eating disorders in Scotland. The vote is Tuesday (March 17). Ask your MSP to vote NO. It takes 1 minute here: writeonad.theotherhalf.uk

This would be a fundamental shift in the meaning of medicine. Presently, the doctors' role is to cure disease and alleviate symptoms. If the McArthur Bill passes, it will include killing patients "in their own interest". This is frightening, if not monstrous. #assistedsuicide
Being Catholic TV@BeingCatholicTV

Liam McArthur has declined to rule out the possibility of doctors in Scotland ending a patient’s life if an assisted suicide attempt does not work. The warning signs of a slippery slope are already appearing and this proposal shows how quickly the boundaries can begin to shift. Kill the bill. Contact your MSP today 👉🏼 carenotkilling.scot

MSPs are debating 324 amendments to the assisted dying bill - with just days until dissolution of the Scottish Parliament. This rushed approach to life-and-death legislation is shambolic and dangerous. It is NOT how a parliament should work.
