What an honour it will be to host @pojanowski later this year as the inaugural visiting fellow of Sydney Public Law - a new centre at @SydneyLawSchool dedicated to research, teaching and engagement in all things public law. Keep an eye out for more info!

Are vehicles allowed in Sydney's Hyde Park? I'll get the opportunity to find out this October as a public law visiting fellow @SydneyLawSchool. law.nd.edu/news-events/ne…

Per ChatGPT: "Originalists would generally disagree that the absence of listed qualifications for judges means non-humans could constitutionally serve. They believe the founding-era meaning of 'officer' inherently required being human."
Lawrence Solum@lsolum

The Constitution specifies qualifications for President, Vice President, and members of Congress. These qualifications arguably imply that these offices can only be held by humans. But this is not the case with judges and Justices of the Supreme Court.

‘The people are rarely asked to change the Australian Constitution, and when they are, they rarely say yes.’ How, then, should the High Court interpret the Constitution? Here’s an article I actually did write, out now in the Federal Law Review cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Very belatedly--sharing a pic from the end of a wonderful workshop (the 1st of its kind!) on comparative statutory interpretation in Sydney, in preparation for the Cambridge Handbook edited by brilliant @dr_lbc & @DrNinaBoughey (and a lucky co-editor)

Please help me get the word out about the new websites for Legal Theory Blog and the Legal Theory Lexicon. Reposting here and on other social media sites is great. It would be especially helpful if law school faculty members could send an email to their colleagues with the new addresses. Legal Theory Blog is at legaltheoryblog.com. The Legal Theory Lexicon is at legaltheorylexicon.com. Thanks in advance for you help.

If only the authors of the report more carefully read or considered the real academic work of those (mis)cited. For instance, see LBC, 'The problem of complex legislation', Legal Theory 30(1) (2024): 1.

@antipovertycent this thread has gotten attention, so I'll point out another thing in the report - for the first time, it maps the business rules of the punishment system Here's the tech inflicted on poor ppl every day - everyone is subject to it: single mums, ppl with disabilities, homeless ppl
