in my opinion this is okay, having fun and draw what you like is the most important. they’ll know fundamental is inevitable when they want to draw like a pro 👌🏻

it does make me a little bit worried that younger artists are now focused on rendering and nothing else... particularly during the epidemic of the "jelly art style", lots of talent, but very little variation apart from pretty front facing headshots with flat lighting
