Some server rules are ruthless bamf. But then modern browser put this method into their download protocol and since then, I ditched IDM.
IDM was the true sidekick for real at the time when I still learn how to work with computer and shit.

IDM was built "technically" to split downloaded files into fragmented file then recompiled it once finished IF the server "allow" it. Splitted files required multiple connection requests. Downloading files in smaller size (split) tend to be faster than bigger size in one.
