Standing stoically in Louisville, historic Union Station has welcomed travelers for over 130 years. 🚉
From hopeful immigrants starting new lives to countless service men and women—including General John J. Pershing—its doors have been a gateway to the city for generations.
Union Station has also hosted its share of notable arrivals. U.S. Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower all passed through, along with legendary performers like Sarah Bernhardt, who once tested her famous voice in the station’s grand waiting room.
A true landmark—rich in history, stories, and the spirit of arrival.
TARC's Union Station is open to the public Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm

Recently discovered—TARC has uncovered a vintage Cleveland-style fare box from the Johnson Farebox Company.
The name “Johnson Farebox” comes from its founder, Tom Loftin Johnson (1854–1911). After settling in Louisville, Kentucky, Johnson worked for a street railroad owned by members of the Du Pont family, where he earned recognition for inventing one of the first coin-operated fare boxes in 1880. In May 1888, he became affiliated with the Saint Louis Car Company. Following his passing, the business continued operations as the Johnson Farebox Company.
The final version of the Cleveland design, known as the Type 5, featured no builder’s name on the body, yet remained easily identifiable. These fare boxes accepted coins of various sizes, though they were not designed to accommodate paper currency unless it was folded twice.
Today, the fare box is believed by some to bring good luck—legend has it that dropping a coin inside ensures safe travels.

Turning Up the Frequency 🚍
The New TARC Network will make it easier than ever to get around Louisville!
Today, only about 20% of service is considered frequent—but with the updated network, that jumps to 70%, with buses arriving every 30 minutes or better on most routes.
Check out the new system map with routes color-coded by frequency:
🔴=Every 15 minutes
🔵=Every 30 minutes
🟢=Every 60 minutes
Less waiting. Fewer missed connections. More freedom to ride when it works for you—not just when the schedule says so.
Whether you're heading to work, school, errands, or a night out, more frequent service means a smoother trip from start to finish.
Faster. More convenient. More reliable.
The New TARC Network coming this Summer!

🗣 Just try it out.
Recently, we caught up with Alexa M., who rides TARC literally every day, to hear what it’s like getting around Louisville without a car and why transit has become part of her daily routine.
For Alexa, it’s all about reliability and cost savings. No gas, no parking fees, just a predictable, affordable way to move through the city.
Her advice to anyone on the fence? “Just try it out.”
