Exciting news! We are delighted to announce that the Bronze Age cinerary urns are back on display at The McKechnie Institute. The urns were excavated at Coalpots Road, Girvan (now known as Urnfield), in 1961 and date to approximately 2100-1500BC.

James McDonnell died aged 37 on Friday 6th June 1941 and is buried in Newmachar Cemetery, Aberdeenshire. He is also remembered on his family gravestone in Doune Cemetery, Girvan.

June Milne of Quilt Arran visited the Celebration of Ayrshire Quilters exhibition at Rozelle House to see her work on display & share her story with museum staff. June created this wonderful quilt in memory of her grandfather, Stoker James McDonnell, who died in action in WWII.🧵
