6. Black people are emotionally exhausted. Sometimes, the best way to help minorities is by giving them space to process.

5. Don’t announce the changes you’re making to decrease racism. Just do it. And the positive impact will follow suit. For example, diverse your selection of students when recruiting. Don’t brag about your “Diversity and inclusion” policy. Minorities are people, not trophies.

4. Read the room. When black issues are being discussed in diverse spaces, crying because you feel guilty inherently turns the conversation about you. Not black lives. It’s ok to express remorse but “white tears” can be interpreted as an insult.

3. White guilt will make you do whatever is necessary so you don’t feel guilty and your conscience is clear. True change is stepping outside of your comfort zone, examining the false narratives you’ve bought into about black people, and making a choice to unlearn it.

2. White guilt can easily lead to a misdirection of anti-racist efforts. "Woke" whites sometimes focus on receiving acceptance instead of creating change. Thus the burden of solving your feelings of guilt is pushed onto the minority.

1. Being ashamed of injustice doesn’t mean you should be ashamed to be white. Maintain SAFE cultural practices that make your family unique. Simultaneously, teach your children about European imperialism, and its consequences, to African Americans and Indigenous people.
