Rather than build almost 30 million electric cars over the next 10 years why dont we just maintain the cars we've got and protect the environment by leaving all that cobalt, lithium & nickel etc. in the ground?

This is probably the most important article of the month: an op-ed by Oman's Foreign Minister, who mediated the talks between the U.S. and Iran, in which he writes that the U.S. "has lost control of its foreign policy" to Israel. He repeats that a deal was possible as an outcome of the talks (something confirmed by the UK's National Security Advisor, who also attended: x.com/i/status/20341…) and that the military strike by the U.S. and Israel was "a shock." Interestingly, given he is one of Iran's neighbors and given that Oman has been struck multiple times by Iran since the war began (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Iran…), he writes that "Iran’s retaliation against what it claims are American targets on the territory of its neighbours was an inevitable result" of the U.S.-Israeli attack. He describes it as "probably the only rational option available to the Iranian leadership." He says the war "endangers" the region's entire "economic model in which global sport, tourism, aviation and technology were to play an important role." He adds that "if this had not been anticipated by the architects of this war, that was surely a grave miscalculation." But, he adds, the "greatest miscalculation" of all for the U.S. "was allowing itself to be drawn into this war in the first place." In his view this was the doing of "Israel’s leadership" who "persuaded America that Iran had been so weakened by sanctions, internal divisions and the American-Israeli bombings of its nuclear sites last June, that an unconditional surrender would swiftly follow the initial assault and the assassination of the supreme leader." Obviously, this proved completely wrong, and the U.S. is now in a quagmire. He says that, given this, "America’s friends have a responsibility to tell the truth," which is that "there are two parties to this war who have nothing to gain from it," namely "Iran and America." He says that all of the U.S. interests in the region (end to nuclear proliferation, secure energy supply chains, investment opportunities) are "best achieved with Iran at peace." As he writes, "this is an uncomfortable truth to tell, because it involves indicating the extent to which America has lost control of its own foreign policy. But it must be told." He then proposes a couple of paths to get back to the negotiating table, although he recognizes how difficult it would be for Iran "to return to dialogue with an administration that twice switched abruptly from talks to bombing and assassination." That's perhaps the most profound damage Trump did during this entire episode: the complete discrediting of diplomacy. If Iran was taught anything, it is: don't negotiate with the U.S., it's a trap that will literally kill you. The great irony of the man who sold himself as a dealmaker is that he taught the world one thing: don't make deals with my country. Link to the article: economist.com/by-invitation/…

Well said Neil. Shame on all the neocons who banged the drumbeat for this war, supported this monumental shitshow or turn a blind eye and don’t have the guts to call it out. Absolutely disgraceful.

Too tired & depressed to tweet anything about the global situation today. Everyone can see now where this Trump/Netanyahu war of choice has led us. To disaster - as many of us said it would. Shame on those who acted as the cheerleaders for it & who didn’t give a damn about the consequences.

I wasn't telling you, I was asking you, I even used the word please. If you're with the Persian people (as I am by the way) you might be very disappointed with the outcome of this war. I don't believe Israel's objective is to liberate the people of Iran. Let us revisit this conversation in a year's time and if the people of Iran are in a better state than they were before this war I will eat my hat.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Having lived in Africa I understand your position regarding the ANC and the EFF, however please don't conflate this with what's happening in Iran. Tribalism is a very dangerous affliction. There are many in the UK who have allowed the immigration crisis to turn them into racist islamaphobes who have consequently, and perhaps unwittingly, supported a genocide in Gaza.

@ginnydmm @joekent16jan19 Do you not know anything about life in Iran following the UK/US sponsored coup in 1953? If it was so rosy why do you think so many ordinary people revolted in 1979? Be very careful what you wish for.

You appear to think that your 28 years in the Middle East makes you right. I arrived in 1997, so does that make me more right than you? Opposing this war is not an endorsement of the Iranian government and any one who suggests that it does is obviously a complete dullard. What political and strategic military experience do you possess to bolster your claim that it is time for Iran to be dealt with?

Neil Oliver: "The big picture is cracking and falling apart so that now we see that those we were raised to call the goodies are actually the baddies." "Only might was only and always right. Democracy was for dupes. Taxes are paid only by the little fella, while the crime lords who run the world print money, launder money, use war as a business model, traffic people, traffic children, and indulge in paedophilia and blood sacrifice as everyday hobbies." "And the steady and ever-accelerating revelation of the nature of our reality has grown time and again from the bravery and stubborn determination of little people... prepared to say what they see and know to be true regardless of the consequences for their careers or anything else." "History is littered with the names of those who spoke up against the official narratives of their time—who were laughed at at least, locked up, tortured, burned at the stake, you name it—and then who, long after they were gone... were revealed to have been right all along." "It might not be easy to tell the truth, but that's precisely why it's worth doing." Credit: @thecoastguy

Dear Friends, Followers and Subscribers, our dear Americans, Seeing as one and all are reminiscing about Charlie Kirk today in light of the Iran war, I thought I would make something that happened crystal clear. Minds are for changing, and when the facts change we change our minds. We had dinner with Charlie Kirk in London last May 2025, and when Charlie I walked privately after dinner in Hyde Park, Charlie told me then that in his view Bibi Netanyahu was a psychopath and that the actions taken by his government in Gaza were psychopathic. We already knew that, so it was no shock to me, but it was good to see that his evaluation and capacity to observe the obvious was present and sane. Charlie had completely changed his mind and his position on Israel from when I first met him in Dec 2018, and in May 2025 he did not support their actions in Gaza or many of the actions of their government, particularly their growing destructive influence in America. Previously he had been one of Israel’s biggest champions, so this was indeed a complete change. We had witnessed his support of Israel previously as we had visited Israel with him in spring 2019 when he had held almost completely the opposite view. Charlie was also totally against any military engagement with Iran by America. And he told me in London that he had written a few days previously to Israeli leadership to express his disappointment. Erika, Charlie’s wife, shortly afterward on June 17th and 18th, communicated to us that she suported Charlie completely concerning his view of the insanity of involving the US in a war with Iran and the importance his attempts to achieve a peaceful resolution. And she communicated that directly to us in writing. She also, and most importantly, indicated that she did not agree with how biblical scripture was being used and was being twisted by pastors and politicians to justify their support of military action. This discussion is historically important in the light of discussions about dispensationalism* (see definition below) and how the Bible is being interpreted today by many politicians and military leaders to justify the current war. She stated very clearly that “the pastors” in Charlie’s orbit were “hungry for war.” That was her worry at that time, and Erika was VERY disturbed by it. Charlie was not alone in his views. Many feel the same way today. The elderly in America and the boomer generation seem to be somewhat unconscious on the subject of harmful Israeli government action and how it affects the entire future of America and the world. Charlie’s view was that most of the youth of today will never forgive Israel for the needless slaughter of innocent children in Gaza, and he suspected that they would not forgive Trump for a future war with Iran either. Charlie did his best to warn President Trump about this and what voters and the Trump base were telling him on June 18 last year. He did this knowingly at great personal risk to his personal relationship and friendship with the President. Today, the youth of the world and young voters in America, on the whole, have recognised that Trump’s actions in Iran are insane and that they have been encouraged by psychopaths. I personally believe that there is a possibility that Charlie was executed for his efforts to prevent the Iran war. This is my opinion. This matter and Charlie’s execution should be completely investigated. If an American citizen was executed by a foreign power for expressing their opinion, then we should be aware of that. I am not alone in that thought either. Charlie was one of my best friends; we communicated directly (often daily) since April 2018. We achieved a tremendous amount together. I have strong reason to believe that there is a possibility that he has been betrayed by several of those around him. @RealCandaceO @CarriePrejean1 @TuckerCarlson @BretWeinstein @piersmorgan @IanCarrollShow
