@Music_bod @DrFautley The fact that the govt's target has been missed for so many years supports many HT's claim that they can't get the staff. It's another aspect of the complex music problem in secondary. And it's not the fault of the EBACC or Progress 8.

@DrLizStafford It comes from the top. My old head used to talk about playing coconuts from the back of the classroom when she was at school. If they don’t get it they won’t promote it to their staff.

I really, REALLY wish we could get beyond the misunderstanding that music education = extra-curricular instrumental provision. Music is a statutory subject of the National Curriculum, and the heart of music education is classroom music lessons.

@HackedOffHugh Yeah, happened to us when the kids were little. Looking back I think it was because middle child doesn’t look like the other two and has different colouring to us. Still most definitely ours but good on them for checking.

Just came through Heathrow with wife and children. We all have the same last name (Grant) on our passports. Immigration officer engages my children in chit chat then whispers to them “Are these your Mum and Dad?” . Intrusive, insulting and creepy.

I’m in the airport pub (Wetherspoons) and came across an elderly couple. We started talking and they said they’re leaving England due to the amount of foreigners. I said same. There was a glint of sadness in their eyes We had a very productive conversation. They told me they sold their property portfolio because foreigners kept not paying rent They both had branded aluminum hand luggage worth $3k. Millionaires leaving the UK

@LibertyCappy If it’s mandatory, include it in the bill. Quit with the maths lesson. Unnecessary.

@MrEFinch If VMTs are truly self employed, do their own admin etc, then there shouldn’t be a requirement to charge a room fee. Problem comes if you appoint a self employed VMT and then try to fix fees etc.

Question for headteachers/school business managers. Please retweet. Does your school charge peripatetic music teachers (e.g. piano, guitar) a fee for use of the practice room that they teach in? If 'yes', could you comment with the sum charged?

@nelltent @thosethatcan In the eyes of the law they are adults. Wielding control over them because they are financially dependent never ends well and produces resentment. Talking, discussing what’s reasonable and mutually respectful goes a long way.

@thosethatcan Also just because they then 18 doesn’t mean they can go clubbing can come home at all hours. Put some rules in place. If by a horrible chance you ever suspected drugs being used you can buy tester kits off Amazon. It is hard so try and also enjoy their grown up stage too ❤️

Parenting teens. Big transitions. The 17.5 year old is out with friends. One is driving. She is sensible (so are they ) and we trust her. When can we remove ourselves from the stress ceiling, please? And how did parents do life without online trackers…? #parentingteens

Right. Bradford is not a ‘shit hole’. It is not ‘horrendous’. It is not ‘a Muslim city’ and it does not run on ‘sharia law’. It is a normal Northern city with a mixed population from many different parts of the world but is majority White English.

@ICT_MrP And then music teachers have to up the ante in the last 2 weeks producing shows, concerts, assemblies and general entertainment for all those jaded kids and staff. Support your music staff in schools of whatever sort they be - FT, PT or Peri.

For any teacher or school staff member feeling utterly exhausted at this point of the term, this is why! And trust me this is not a you problem.
