(1/n) Todays we (Anja Hahn, Konstantin Kholodilin, Marco Fongoni and me) celebrate the publication of our article “Forward to the Past: Short-Term Effects of the Rent Freeze in Berlin“ studying the effects of restrictive #rentcontrol policies on today’s developed rent markets.

(4/4) This would improve the harmonization of the HICP, help close the credibility gap between measured inflation and public perceptions of it, and allow the @ECB to lean against a housing boom without departing from its inflation target.

(3/4) But how to measure these costs? We propose using a simplified user-cost approach that fits the principles of inflation measurement and is easy-to-implement.

(1/4) How to deal with the asymmetric costs accrued for owner-occupiers and renters when measuring overall #inflation? In a new article Robert Hill, Miriam Steurer (both @UniGraz) and me (@WU_econ, @LISERinLUX) discuss various #measurement techniques and simulate their impact.
