@sigfig I think this is satire, but the message is he got very close to his goal *the wrong way*. We always say, fake it until you make it- but he was sincere in his actions. He didn’t have a backup plan because he believed his wrong way would work. That robs a man of lessons.

people misunderstand the icarus story. the problem was not that he flew too high. it's that the wings were made of beeswax, which offered very little resistance to heating. with modern materials he would have had no problems. we can fly as close to the sun as we want now

@sakisavavi I think another justification is that lady probably is terrible vibes and that is a much powerful memory than someone being corny. He was “corny” yet she had to interview him on the red carpet years later and still had the audacity (or professionalism) to deny his reality.

It’s collectively seen as corny to remember when somebody rejected you and to address the switch up directly. The custom is to pretend that someone is so insignificant that you don’t even remember the shade, which is why ppl go around thinking they can say and do anything.

The one that really pissed me off was the commercial where he disguised himself as Bugs Bunny and the kids were about to give him some Trix, then they realized it was him and decided not to. "Trix are for kids" means nothing, they just hate that one specific man

@gallowsglare @FNLFLSH I acknowledge this is an example of overrepresented heteronormativity. But my point is the scene is more than just Pearline’s legs to the moon. A queer sex scene should also be intergal to the plot, because aren’t the stories around them just as important? If not, more?

i’m seeing this conversation about queerness being absent from sinners and how that’s ahistorical for the blues filled rural south and i get it but also.. i’d rather ppl who aren’t a part of certain communities/experiences/identities to not tell those stories.

Just because a movie isn’t 12 Years A Slave doesn’t mean the plot isn’t influenced by slavery. Especially when discussing a film about black people in America 60 years removed from slavery.
