@MrNRowcliffe @janrosenow @TheEconomist yes, just that - resistive heating. Microwave heating offers no efficiency advantage. Heat pumps are more complicated - but not much different to a refrigerator. Economies of scale would bring prices down - after all, fridges are not that expensive.

@janrosenow @TheEconomist Thanks. Interesting. But please clarify what you mean by "simple electric boiler" - it doesn't sound like you mean a heat pump. Is it literally like an electric kettle and is that really an option for domestic heating? ... I've seen no discussion at all.

More misleading coverage of microwave boilers this time by the @TheEconomist highlighting the 96% efficiency they achieve as something really special. A simple electric boiler can reach close to 100% efficiency and is cheaper. economist.com/science-and-te…
