KYIV — Protodeacon and former MP Vadim Novinsky of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) has claimed that the vast majority of criminal cases opened by the Security Service of Ukraine against UOC clergy are fabricated. Speaking in a recent interview, Novinsky asserted that only a small fraction of the cases have any legitimate basis, estimating that as few as five percent may be grounded in reality.
He described what he called a typical pattern in such prosecutions, alleging that authorities seize a priest’s phone and use supposed correspondence to justify charges of treason. Clergy, he said, are then pressured to accept plea deals under threat of pre-trial detention, contributing to conviction statistics. Novinsky also rejected accusations that priests have aided military actions, insisting their lives are devoted to spiritual service.

FUQUAY-VARINA, NC — From March 20–22, 2026, Metr. Saba made his first archpastoral visits to North Carolina, visiting parishes experiencing a notable rise in catechumens and converts. On March 21, he was warmly received at St. Raphael Mission during the fourth Saturday of Great Lent, marking a historic first for his ministry in the state.
The visit began with the Third Hour service, followed by a wide-ranging discussion on the Orthodox faith. Metr. Saba emphasized that Orthodoxy is not merely theological study but “life with God,” encouraging the faithful to encounter God through lived experience. He also addressed questions on suffering, divine will, and daily spiritual life, offering pastoral insights grounded in experience and tradition.

GALVESTON, TX — Blue skies, mildly warm temperatures, and calm ocean breezes are nothing out of the ordinary for Galveston Island as February closes and weather skips to spring. This year, the first of March also brought a sizable population of Orthodox Christians to the island. However, they were not seeking refuge from the city to enjoy the ocean front views. Instead, they packed the humble church of Ss. Constantine and Helen for evening vespers led by Fr. Srdjan (Serge) Veselinovich on the Feast of the Triumph Orthodoxy.
