So, what exactly is compounding? Compounding is personalized medications, prepared by a licensed pharmacist when a commercially available option doesn’t fully meet a patient’s needs. In fact, the FDA describes compounding as the process of creating medications tailored to an individual patient. It’s not about replacing standard medications. It’s about personalizing care and is used when it’s clinically appropriate based on a provider’s prescription.
