@ANGIE_fic Haha, yeah, don't expect a time skip, either. Was also a bit disappointed but I think it works out well in the end. But with my ideal series length being 10 volumes and Shirayuki being at 26, without an ending in sight, I do worry a bit. Still very much enjoy it, though.

@ANGIE_fic Yeah, it's not really a romance. The author said herself in an interview that she wanted to focus on human relations and not on romance. (Also that it pretends to be a shoujo manga.) Took me a bit to adjust my expectations but ultimately it's what I like about the series.

@alltsun_nodere FWIW, while the English Wikipedia page has a demographic for both the light novel and manga, the Japanese page has neither, it's only listed as a Japanese-style Fantasy and a Love Story. (While series running in magazines usually have shoujo/shounen listed as genre.)

Sincere question: This is based on a light novel, which afaik doesn't have gendered imprints. The manga runs in Gangan Online, which I associate more with shonen; however, the Wikipedia entry lists it as shojo.

@catsuka Yeah – but I don't see how the AI images could have really helped the BG artist. They didn't add anything that an old-fashioned reference couldn't. Right now, I feel AI works best for ideation or where details don't matter too much – neither applies to the job of BG artists.

@sttz Layout artist & BG artist is often not the same artist. Here we have : 1) layout 2) AI generated pictures (based on the layout) 3) final background (where BG artist was inspired by some parts from both AI pictures) So the new thing here is step 2: using AI pictures as references.

Netflix Japan produced an (experimental) animated short film "The Dog & the Boy" (with WIT Studio & Rinna) using AI in part of the making of the backgrounds. I don't know what to think about it, but here's an interview of the creators about their approach: about.netflix.com/ja/news/the-do…
