Hogwarts Legacy also defies the โgo woke, go brokeโ trend. It is one of the wokest games I have ever played; as obnoxious about it as Last of Us 2.
It depicts a nineteenth century Hogwarts that is about 60% nonwhite. One of the major characters is an African exchange student. A character whose job in the game is to run a series of side quests about solving puzzles in the environment randomly informs you that she is gay.
The Three Broomsticks pub in Hogsmeade is run by a non-passing transwoman named Sirona Ryan and there is a sidequest where you collect lost letters to learn the story of Sironaโs transition.

Hogwarts Legacy sold 40M copies, even with a performative internet boycott. The Harry Potter series could be the biggest series in HBO history.

@Nerdrotics Claims to be a fan of tolkien......commits the ultimate blasphemy by "expanding" upon the works of a literary genius.
No one cares what story colbert wants to tell. F him in his stupid ass

@JarrodRodrigue1 Weird body proportions. Probably not his fault.

@yioyea @newstart_2024 I know better, but obviously won't convince you.

Steven Bartlett asks the uncomfortable question every employer faces:
โWhat do I do? Give people three years off when they have a kid?โ
Erica Komisarโs blunt answer:
โGive them as much time off as you possibly can โ men and women, whoever is the primary attachment figure. Then give them real flexibility: part-time, job-sharing, working from home, leaving early.
Accept that parents with young children wonโt stay as late as childless employees. Tough. Life isnโt fair. Healthy children matter more than perfect parity.โ
The early years (especially the first 3) are the critical attachment window. Prioritizing parental presence isnโt just nice โ itโs foundational for emotional health, resilience, and long-term societal outcomes.
Employers & parents: Should companies be expected to accommodate long parental leave and flexible hours for young kids, even if it creates imbalance with childless staff?
Or is that asking too much in a competitive world?

@BigDickEnvyDad @OrwellNGoode No idea. Always wondered.

@sweasel @OrwellNGoode Why was she working as the heir to the moon pie fortune
English

@gullyfo96096122 @OrwellNGoode Well played, sir! (I assume).
English

@sweasel @OrwellNGoode You're still a babe. (I assume). I Googled the inventor of Moon Pies and he had one daughter, so I pretended that I was knowledgeable.
English

@gullyfo96096122 @OrwellNGoode No idea the woman's name. This was in Chattanooga in the early Sixties. I was but a babe.

@XxninjadraycoxX @OrwellNGoode I don't like to brag.

One real Mexican restaurant would be life-changing in any British small city.

I love a jacket potato as much as any Englishman, but I sometimes fear that the ability for the rest of the world to see how we live has not been an entirely positive development for our country

@wil_da_beast630 There's a Taco Bell in Eastbourne. Not real Mexican, but I crave Taco Bell sometimes.

@sweasel The thing about Life is that you can recreate a simple computer with it.
And you could then program that computer...to play Life.

I assure you my desk was never this neat, and I had never even contemplated a book stand. Also, I used David H. Ahl's books. Magazines seemed like a gyp.

@bitmaelstrom Not a clue. I never did learn to write proper code, though I could cobble something together that worked.

@YesThatVCharles It wasn't even bad enough to be fun. It was just corporate slop.

@buzzleapedyear @InezFeltscher That was the rationale for the HMO, but it didn't really work out, did it?
English

@sweasel @InezFeltscher Which is stupid and not what any other first world nation does. Regular checkups and doctor visits help prevent massive expenses down the road. America is such a backwards place sometimes.

Catastrophic insurance is actually what โinsuranceโ is supposed to mean. Routine costs (doc visits, occasional urgent care, prescriptions, the sort of stuff that people predictably use) were paid in cash - and were cheaper because of it. INSURANCE was supposed to be for unpredictable costs, like getting cancer or hit by a bus. And catastrophic insurance was fantastic for that purpose without breaking the bank. โInsuranceโ for predictable, routine costs that most people incur is just called โpaying overhead on top of expenses,โ which is why most people carry accident insurance but not maintenance insurance on their cars.
It wasnโt consumers who were stupid.

@InezFeltscher Catastrophic insurance basically isn't insurance. That's why it was effectively banned. Most consumers don't understand how it would work and therefore it's not fit to sell.
