Takashi Murakami on NFTs, Art, and Collecting Hello, this is Takashi Murakami. I was featured as the cover artist in NFT Magazine (@MagazineNFT), where I spoke about my approach to art, collecting, and my ongoing exploration of NFTs as a medium of expression. In the interview, I speak quite candidly about the background behind the birth of Murakami. Flowers, the relationship between art and capitalism, and why digital collectibles continue to be important to my practice today. It was an e-mail interview and I worked on it intensively, rewriting it over and over for about ten days. I wanted to share this article with everyone in the Kaikai Kiki Market Place (KKMP) community as well. I am convinced that my sincere commitment to art, as well as why I continue to focus on NFT art despite the strong headwinds surrounding it, would fully be understood after my death. The fact that I am still alive, however, perhaps makes it harder to be understood. That is why, in this interview, I took the time to explain these ideas thoroughly. We are pleased to introduce Murakami. Flowers Seed Lucky 727 Proof. Lucky 727 Proof was designed, in the truest sense, as an edition artwork grounded in the philosophy of fine art. Artist Takashi Murakami interprets NFT art within two contexts. One is an approach rooted in the history of NFT art itself. The other is about connecting the history of art transactions itself to NFT. Most NFT art projects have been events driven solely by expectations of short-term, speculative price increases. In contrast, Murakami’s NFT art is conceived with a minimum time span of ten years in mind, and even includes a vision for how it should exist after the artist’s death. Lucky 727 Proof is a special edition released in relation to the original Murakami. Flowers Seed announced in 2022. These Seeds have been held in the care of Murakami’s studio and are now in part being released together as a single, curated edition. During the whitelist and public sale periods, 500 editions will be sold. The remaining Seeds will be preserved as part of the studio archive. Collectors can choose to keep the Seed as an artifact as it is, or allow it to continue its journey.
