@KimChiSpicey I think parents education also correlate strongly with academic performance of the kids. I’m curious if it’s possible to control for that.

I’m building a dashboard on SFUSD spending to put things in perspective.
1. How much do urban school districts comparable to SF spend per pupil, as a % of per capita GDP?
(ie. how much economic output is allocated to public education)
SFUSD is the lowest in CA, with 8.74% spending per student relative to per capita GDP.

For @LondonBreed and others who say police enforcement is the key to ensure pedestrian & cyclist safety—we just saw an SFPD SUV making an illegal left turn from Mission station on Valencia on to 18th St, while cutting off through traffic. So *they* will enforce traffic laws?
English

@MarkFarrellSF @EskSF @welcometomannys ...cars back on Market St.
Sorry, what? You are not serious about street safety. At least not as serious as putting up your "pro-business" image—whether cars on Market are actually good for business or not is a different matter—Market St between 5 & 10 was shitty with cars.
English

I sat down with @EskSF last night at @welcometomannys to discuss my vision and platform to turn San Francisco around, what sets me apart, & how we’re going to win.
Thx to everyone who attended + look forward to sharing the whole hour long conversation with you soon!

Streetlights and signs are the bulletproof backpacks of road safety. He is unwilling to inconvenience a single driver. This man is not remotely serious about preventing the next tragedy and it is just as certain is the next school shooting.

OPINION: “I’ve heard directly from residents who had raised safety concerns about the very intersection where the recent West Portal tragedy occurred, asking for streetlights and clearer pedestrian markers.” — Mayoral candidate @MarkFarrellSF sfstandard.com/2024/03/21/far…

i’m pissed off that something as simple as a bollard does not get s mention in this article sfchronicle.com/crime/article/…

“A family did what our city needs people to do in order to address our roadway safety crisis and climate crisis: Sold their car and took public transit.
They were living up to the policies the City and Mayor Breed claim to prioritize: Transit-First, Vision Zero, Climate Action.”

@thisboy @zachklein 100% agree. I don't think wrapping the bus stop makes sense. The SUV could have ended on the steps of the station, potentially resulting in an even bigger disaster.
English

@thinkingfish @zachklein Yeah, I live in this neighborhood. I walk there every day. I think bollards make sense here if they end up converting that main drag into a walking street. Otherwise you're just wrapping a bus stop, but the entire intersection is full of kids, commuters, walkers, etc.
English

If SF is unwilling to do whatever it takes to prevent the killing of families waiting for the bus, how can we criticize those that resist gun control and only offer thoughts and prayers as consolation?
We could end pedestrian deaths if we were serious.

It’s important @LondonBreed @sfbos and @SFMTA_Muni understand these deaths are the inevitable result of the choice to prioritize motorist convenience (and property) over human lives. Offering thoughts and prayers without pouring cement is identical to R cowardice on gun control.

Matilde Ramos Pinto, 38, and Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, 40, who, along with their toddler, were killed on Saturday when a SUV crashed into the West Portal bus stop they were waiting at to go to the zoo. It was the couple’s wedding anniversary.

@thisboy @zachklein Bollards on Ulloa St at Wawona and again at Claremont would be great. That was exactly where SFMTA stationed their cars yesterday during the vigil.
English

@thisboy @zachklein Bollards as many have said. And if you look at Ulloa street in person, you will realize it has a steep slope only a few blocks before hitting West Portal Ave / station, *and* it curves in the last few blocks. A combination that is prone to high speed and vehicle getting offroad
