How sad for this great club. How sad for the #itfc fans - badly let down again by those in charge at Portman Road.

Nigel Farage’s visit to Ipswich Town this week has sparked a major backlash. Fans have accused the club of allowing itself to be used for political purposes, but there is also internal dissent at the club’s handling of the affair. The Athletic can now reveal that the club’s depiction of the visit, as presented to both staff and media, is being heavily disputed. This is the inside story of a chaotic 72 hours. 📝 @Dan_Sheldon_ 🔗 nyti.ms/3Pxq08A

@LFCDean17 @palacetom99 Nothing wrong with the bloke or his hairline.
English

@palacetom99 Your hairline isn’t going to the World Cup either lad
At least other fans want to see Irish and Welsh fans at the World Cup, can’t wait to laugh as football doesn’t come home again you ugly mong 😂😂😂

English

No Welsh or Irish at the World Cup.
Have that you cunts😂
You’ll be obsessed with England and have the flags of our opponents in your Twitter names in no time.
Put the bins out for us👍🏼
WHAT A FUCKING THURSDAY👏🏼🥳

@secondtierpod Ashton out now this isn't the Ipswich town I know

More details have emerged of Nigel Farage's visit to Ipswich Town.
👉An associate of CEO Mark Ashton sent an invite to Nigel Farage
👉Farage was met by Marcus Nash, director of media and communications
👉Ashton and COO Luke Werhun had lunch with Farage
👉The club gifted Farage SIX 'Farage 10' shirts
👉 Employees outside a select few were unaware of the stunt
👉Members of staff have made complaints
This is despite the club claiming they were 'apolitical' in a statement made on Wednesday.

@mapet_hugh Yep you’ve nailed it. Too sensible though for all these dopamine obsessed weirdo’s who covet drama in everything they take an interest in 🤷🏻♂️
English

Many of those making comments online if faced , face to face with Ashton would buckle at the knees , want a selfie and wouldn't mention a word to him .
Some wouldn't see past the end of their nose EVER .
Some would be happy to talk , listen and reason with him .
But at the end of all this living in a world of being manipulated over the last 30yrs by the narrative within the country and outrage over a broken nail, its easier to satisfy themselves by getting rid of the individual than stepping back and seeing the bigger picture.
Common sense should prevail but it won't, be very careful what you wish for, if he is forced out of our club there will be turmoil for a while , then they'll be another meltdown.
Wipe your nose and move on .
English

@TheSpongeImp So you don’t really know anything about our club & it’s just an excuse to enforce your political beliefs about grifter Farage to anyone who’ll listen then.
English

@thomas_bowles They probably shouldn't have pulled their pants down for a fascist in that case then
English

Ashton is a good man, who invests his own money in to his charity in & around Ipswich. He loves the club more than anyone else & has overseen our most successful spell in donkeys years.. Anyone who thinks he should resign or be sacked is a blood hungry grade A scum bag #itfc
English

@bokkechoi Yep that’s the biggest takeaway unfortunately. I’m sure he’ll make a statement & apology today
English

@bokkechoi Who knows, but my point is the attack on Ashton. Absolute pile on begging for him to resign is unwarranted
English

@TheSpongeImp Couldn’t give a shit. I’m interested in the football club I support & it being successful not the mob mentality pile on from the online politicians on X
English

@thomas_bowles Lol everyone fucking hates your club. Shouldn't bend over for fascists 🤣🤣🤣
English

@bokkechoi I don’t disagree that he faces criticism & he needs to understand the impact of not being transparent to the clubs supporters that are uncomfortable with it. But as you say losing his job I’m not happy with. Hopefully he will make a statement & we can move on
English

@thomas_bowles He needs to face some criticism. He’s either brought his politics into the football club and embarrassed the club or incompetently allowed a political party to use the football club for clicks and likes.
There are also conflicting accounts that differ from club statement.
English

@AuntieChristi69 He can apologise for the incorrect statement & then the club can move on can’t we.
English

@thomas_bowles “I like the chairman of my football club lying to its fans”
English

@SimonHaydonx Are you even an Ipswich fan? If not get the fuck away from my feed
English

@thomas_bowles If you’re okay with his actions, that’s your choice.
English

@thomas_bowles I don’t want him sacked, but I want a full explanation of why our club got used as a political football, and an apology for it to fans, staff and players/McKenna.
English

@thomas_bowles yes mate, he should apologise for covering it up, as you said above. if he wants to meet Farage, fine. he can’t then lie about it
