@waggingthedog11 @USMNTwatch16 @stuholden I'm not surprised it's expensive. There's a difference between the World Cup and say, a Super Bowl. Hosts aren't supposed to gouge their guests. FIFA has weaponized technology and ticket distribution against football fans to ensure they pay unprecedented and unreasonable $$$$$

@USMNTwatch16 @timbailey27 @stuholden Are you guys for real here or is this just an internet thing? You’re surprised the once every 4 year sporting event loved by billions across the world has expensive ticket prices? What?

@wbz I’m surprised no reporter is asking sports fans about this World Cup and the rampant price gouging around it. Moreover, where do pro footballers and media covering the event stand on this? They’ve been silent.

@jerrythornton Outstanding use of juxtaposition here, Jerry. If I were still teaching, I’d be using this as an example in my AP Language and Composition class.

Ted Williams, 1966: "To me [baseball] was the greatest fun I ever had, which probably explains why today I feel both humility and pride, because God let me play the game and learn to be good at it." Sam Kennedy, 2026: "As long as the growth opportunities fit our overarching criteria which are blue chip in nature, and we feel that the Fenway Sports Group can be more additive and create more value, it's something we'll look at.

@MarkDondero The Masters worship is tiresome and Augusta National epitomizes golf's biggest problem: its elitism, expense, and exclusivity. I'll watch the tournament, but the Nantzesque fawning over Augusta leaves me cold. I'd rather watch the pros carry their own bags at the local muni.

@DaveRob48526990 @GravySauceCream I may be nitpicking but I'd say these are not spelling errors but usage errors: chose/choose, affect/effect, to/too/two, their/there/they're, its/it's, etc. The words themselves are spelled correctly; the mistake is in using the wrong one.

Ironically, you began both sentences of your complaint about a grammatical error, which is actually a spelling error, with grammatical errors. I will confess that I might have misused the words you mentioned; I do misspell a lot of words. I have read more than 3K non-fiction books and written millions of words, but my mind just will not lock the spelling of many words into place.

the grammatical error that bugs me the most is when someone uses “loose” instead of “lose” or vice versa. i really don’t understand how someone over the age of 7 makes that mistake.

"Planet of the Apes" was released on this day in 1968. Groundbreaking sci-fi movie (based on the novel by Pierre Boulle) from director Franklin J. Schaffner, and screenwriters Michael Wilson and Rod Serling. Highlights: Extraordinary (and Honorary Oscar-winning) makeup and prosthetic effects by John Chambers; spectacularly innovative and influential Oscar-nominated score by Jerry Goldsmith. "Planet of the Apes" was a blockbuster, grossing nearly 7 times its production budget and becoming one of the year's ten biggest hits. It directly spawned four sequels, a Saturday morning cartoon, a comic book series, a successful toy line, and a live-action television series. (A big budget remake and a hugely successful new series of APES films followed decades later.) Showcasing the greatest twist ending in cinema history, "Planet of the Apes" remains a thrilling, philosophical, and provocative cinema achievement. A legit masterpiece.

@GlennDOrdway These are your problems when your only objective is “how much money can we make.” NBA should play about sixty games. Each team plays every other home and away. No back to back games. The league needs to change to make sure star players play meaningful games.

@CalcioNJ @HenryBushnell @TheAthletic I’d love to see actual data from FIFA on how this grassroots money is spent. Fairly sure it would be mostly BS. We all know FIFA’s legacy of corruption has not changed. We get new evidence every day!

@HenryBushnell @TheAthletic Infantino rationalizes these prices by saying money supports worldwide soccer programs that wouldn’t otherwise exist. The better story is one that examines this spending, how much of it actually gets to grassroots, how much disappears, unaccounted for.

@DrewPeacock911 @FreddyLA7 That is my hope. The idea that FIFA owns football is false. No one owns the game. Once fans and PLAYERS demonstrate solidarity and refuse to support this type of exploitation of fans and the game, we may see change. Why are no journalists confronting players about this?

This is NOT Viagogo. This is FIFA’s official resale platform. $25,000 for a Category 4 ticket in the nosebleeds that originally cost $75… plus a $3.7k fee ON TOP. How is this even allowed? How are resale prices not capped? This is the worst kind of exploitation of fans.

@ComicBookNFTguy @mckayjohns I’m amazed that people are willing to be swindled so transparently. If you all keep paying this pricing will be standard moving forward and only rich and/or irresponsible people will attend games. And this will become the default approach for other sports and events.

@TheGregHillShow Tom is contemptuous of most regular people and his own fans. If you’re famous or a billionaire, he might speak to you, but otherwise you’re merely someone from whom he might make money or someone who augments his ego. The very worst type of celebrity.

@KenBromfield1 FIFA, supposed stewards of the game, are grotesquely contemptuous of football fans. This WC obviously isn't about the game, countries, or players. It's all about revenue. Why do we allow this?

I'll readily confess that I'm a football nutter. QPR, home and away going back to 1945. £8333 for a World Cup Final is way beyond my lunacy. Real football fans would boycott the whole tournament. FIFA is no more than a bunch of money grubbing shitbags.

When FIFA opened the last phase of 2026 World Cup ticket sales on Wednesday, many fans were left frustrated by long waits, technical glitches and hiked prices — with a Category 1 ticket to the final now topping $10,000. The so-called “last-minutes sales phase” is the first in which fans have been able to purchase tickets on a first come, first served basis, without entering a lottery or receiving special access.
