@sciencegirl When I was working offshore the “certification” to go down this slid was like an 800 dollar add on to the sea survival course

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy And I’ve got one more: there’s almost no water to fight the fires. Swamps are the lowest I have ever seen. There’s next to nothing to pump from, even with a wajax. All the math points to bad frigging results. It’s not political. Experts have the advice.

I get the impression that a bunch of Canadians just don't care. If they were alive during the blitz in Europe they would have refused to back out their windows at night in the name of freedom. No sense of community and the greater good. Pretty depressing really.

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy We have a few of the same pissed off people who are pissed off all the time anyway. One is a former forestry technician who had some duties as a firefighter for 30 years who has seemingly forgotten everything he was taught. When I worked for him he was smarter.

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy And our firefighters are good. Great even. There is a lot of mutual aid. They take on board the lessons they can, when they can. They need more support all the time though. All of this takes a toll.

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy BC has fires they do not even action. Manitoba used to have a three or four tiered system based on forest economic value that determined how much action they’d take. We do not have that option. Ever.

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy People can be stupid way further afield and faster than before. We have documented evidence of this. So a good mitigation strategy with elimination of risk at the top of mind, is to close the woods. THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy 95% of the firefighters in this province are volunteers. DNR cut positions about 15 years ago. The city has loads, but most of this province isn’t city - and even city guys either all their tools can be limited if the fire gets big enough.

@SteveMille63891 @mikethenavyguy The majority of the wildland fires we have here, with the right conditions, can be Kelowna in 2003 quick. We only just had ours two years ago and already people have forgotten.

@tinychangesdgc @HRMFireNews If I blew the whistle, it would NOT look good for Skylar Blackie or the Truro fire chief. Like I said…dig deeper. Peel back the layers and open your fucking eyes

Please provide information to support such claims. I will share information that can be validated that exposes any lie or misinformation. There are a lot of credible people lining up behind the allegations and the NSFS has an incentive to cast doubt on their claims, so I'll need to see real proof of any lies.

@mastersdisc I just played two weeks worth of frolf on a temp setup (ski hill) with 815 feet of vertical. Didn’t take my cart but heard no complaints from those who did.

Played a "nearly done" (missing signs and a few small cuts in places, and some bridges) course. 'Designed' by a pro. Around a quarter million dollars spent so far. And boy is it underwhelming. I can confidently shoot 10 down with four discs. 9 teeshots are nearly identical.

@Crunchy_DG Those pole saws are dandy. I’ll be stuck with a Fiskars analog unit for a while, but thankfully the work for it is minimal. I used to just park my ranger by a suspect tree, clap a piece of plywood on top and go nuts. #safetylastsometimes

@Crunchy_DG I’ve got a little battery powered DeWalt that has saved me (and my body) so much. It’s been a year since I fired up my Stihl and I’m happy to extend that time. Safer too. We’ve got a large Milwaukee at my fire hall that absolutely charges through hardwood. 1/2 the weight.

To my course admins and maintenance guys: Electric pole saws are worth their weight in gold. Not just for high stuff, for getting bushes you can't crawl into. I cleared 60ft of honeysuckle by myself in no time. My chainsaw would have been 2x as hard to use (ask me how I know).
