@MissSFEnglish I think it all comes down to knowing your class and the children in front of you. Some children find cold calling distressing but if you know that you know to get them involved in a different way. Most will be fine if they feel you classroom is a safe environment
I need opinions on cold-calling: there is so much conflicted research. On one hand cold-calling is cruel and unfair and on the other hand, it isn’t testing all student’s AFL and it allows a ‘lazy room’. What is your view?

English teachers: In what order do you teach your GCSE Lit and Lang courses to your yr 10s and 11s and do you find it has an effect on their outcomes at GCSE? Interested in hearing as many approaches as possible so please RT. @Team_English1#TeamEnglish
@Strickomaster@halfdutchbird In English I have come to the conclusion I like mixed at KS3 and setting in KS4. My set 4s each year are so much more confident sharing their ideas and reading aloud than they ever where when in mixed ks3 classes.
Question: As a full time tabled table teacher how do you motivate yourself to go the gym when your at work till 5/half 5 every day and just want to go home? Don’t want to lose the progress I’ve made this year but I have literally no energy after this week 😂🙈
@Mrdjstoker@Team_English1 We watch the globe production of a midsummer nights dream in year 7 and look at a theme and then twelfth night and look at a character. Then in year 9 they watch Romeo and Juliet and then the baz l version and wrote a review of the baz one comparing it
Hi folks- can I please ask how departments are interpreting the NC requirements for teaching of two Shakespeare plays at KS3. We are currently studying the whole narrative (not the whole scripts) but through analysis of extracts… @Team_English1#teamenglish
We’re teaching ‘My Name is Leon’ as our Year 8 novel next year. We’re excited abouh it but having to start from scratch. I don’t suppose anyone has any resources they’d be happy to share/guide me towards? 🙏 @Team_English1
@daniellegirvan@Team_English1@researchEDKent We do mixed ks3 and set ks4. Our year sevens are taught in forms then year 8 and 9 they are mixed across year halves with complete ability spread and remixed each year.
Do any schools have mixed ability KS3 classes? I’m researching it for English but interested in all experiences/research Please retweet @Team_English1@researchEDKent
@HoDandHeart Yes I guess so, the effect is the most important. I just think to achieve effect in a perceptive way, you’re really considering the word/device itself. Perhaps that’s something I need to reflect on and change the way I teach this. Thanks for the thought.
