Christian pastor says the 19th Amendment is "against Scripture" and wants it repealed. "If we can overturn Roe v. Wade, then I think we can overturn the 19th Amendment."

Alright, brace yourself… because almost everything you think you know about Saint Patrick's Day is wrong. Let's dive into a quick history lesson. From harmless misconceptions to full-blown historical fabrications, here are the five biggest myths surrounding everyone's favorite excuse to wear green: 1. For starters, Ireland's most celebrated patron saint was about as Irish as fish and chips. Saint Patrick was actually born into a well-to-do family somewhere in Roman Britain, and his arrival on Irish soil had nothing to do with choice. Legend has it that pirates kidnapped him and brought him there entirely against his wishes. 2. Another fun one for trivia night: "Patrick" wasn't even the man's real name. He came into this world as "Maewyn Succat," which, admittedly, doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easily. The name "Patrick" is believed to have come later in life, likely derived from the Latin Patricius (loosely translating to "Father-Figure"). Historians think this name was adopted upon his ordination into the church, similar to how Catholic Popes take on a new name when they assume the papacy. 3. Ironically, the man behind the most green-drenched holiday in the Western calendar reportedly couldn't stand the color. Historical accounts suggest Patrick was personally partial to blue. Green only got stitched into his legacy much later, after it became a rallying symbol during periods of Irish resistance and rebellion. 4. The tale of Patrick heroically banishing all the snakes from Ireland makes for a great story... except Ireland never had any snakes to begin with. Geography and post-Ice Age ecology simply didn't allow for it. The more sobering interpretation from historians is that the "snakes" in this legend serve as a metaphor — and not a flattering one — for Ireland's native pagan communities, whom Patrick worked tirelessly to displace in favor of Catholic Christianity. 5. Last but certainly not least: despite the title preceding his name for over a millennium, Patrick was never formally made a saint by any Pope. Official canonization processes simply didn't exist during his lifetime, so he was never put through them. Instead, his sainthood emerged organically through widespread popular devotion — essentially a grassroots campaign that the Catholic Church never formally endorsed, though many other Christian denominations have been happy to recognize it. So the next time you're out celebrating with a pint in hand and shamrocks on your shirt, drop some of these truth bombs on your friends. And maybe raise a glass to the pagans while you're at it — they had a rough go of things.

@cochran_rd Congratulations on your own marriage! Whether or not you will need updated credentials depends on how you plan to utilize your ordination. I would suggest you send an email to help@ulc.org - a member of our team will be happy to advise you further on the particulars :)

@ulcmonastery I am ordained through you but I had my name changed in 2020. I added my husband's name to mine separated by a hyphen. Do I need to get a new ordination card and papers?

But critics question whether arming unlicensed volunteers will truly make worship services safer, or if it could actually increase the risk of violence by injecting untrained people with guns into conflict scenarios.

The bill was introduced by state senator Don Gaetz, who said many religious institutions already feel compelled to add security due to rising concerns about violence targeting places of worship. Security experts note that these locations can be attractive targets because large groups gather in one place, making quick on-site response important.

Does the war in Iran spell Jesus's return? Apparently that's what some military commanders think. One leader reportedly told his troops the strikes were "all part of God's divine plan," citing the Book of Revelation about Armageddon and the "imminent" return of Christ. 🧵
