@docdez And some days, dog walks are much shorter than normal. It’s feeling like -51C in Saskatoon this morning.

@TylerWist1 @SKAgriculture @dr_tansey It’s a great line! He used it in his presentation to Agronomy Update 2024 this morning too.

"Show of hands, who expected to see insect naughty bits at #WCCPS24 this morning?" asks @SKAgriculture Entomologist @dr_tansey

@CanolaWatch Kudos to Taylor, a very keen and intrepid summer student for counting and identifying thousands of grasshoppers in summer 2023!

At #canolaweek2023 @vanbugsky says grasshoppers could be worse in 2024 than they were in 2023. And they were bad in ‘23.
Meghan shared this slide showing the massive pile of grasshoppers captured in 25 sweeps near Kindersley, SK this year…

@Megarhyssa @BoydMori I expect the answer is that diamondback moth larvae will eat anything green as long as there are larvae alive and it’s warm enough. But that’s off the top of my head logic, not something I’ve looked up. So I could be wrong!

The Canadian Plant Health Council needs your help! Please watch for & report invasive & migratory insect pests that harm plants. Early detection is critical for slowing the spread of these insect pests.
Use the QR code on the posters to report any sightings!

@APGresearch @FloateKevin @hectorcarabido @TylerWist1 The PPMN and it’s many collaborators and contributors will be sampling grasshoppers, wheat midge, and wheat stem sawfly this fall. The data collected will help us forecast what to expect in 2024, BUT the weather plays a big role in what will actually happen! #abBugChat
English

As plants are approaching full maturity (or are already there) where are all our pest species at? can we influence next years pop's this year? @FloateKevin @hectorcarabido @TylerWist1 @vanbugsky
English

@APGresearch @ShaunSharpe9 @FloateKevin @hectorcarabido Sorry for missing #abBugChat yesterday! I was collecting grasshopper samples along SKHW18 and HW2 for our annual species composition survey. You were in good hands though!

English

Producers & agronomists in Barrhead Co. keep an eye on your canola for diamondback moth. My morning processing is saying that they could certainly be in your canola. #abcountingbugs23

Not great news for canola farmers in the land of my youth (or at least in the adjacent county!). Watch out for those pesky larvae.

@breannetidemann @ShaunSharpe9 @SKweedgeek @APGExtension @APGresearch @charlesmgeddes On the topic of yellow clematis: my mom is still salty about the county telling her to get rid of the one climbing on a sign post at the driveway. It had been there >10 years and never spread. The daisies and yellow buttercup are a much bigger problem than her clematis ever was
English

@ShaunSharpe9 @SKweedgeek @APGExtension @APGresearch @charlesmgeddes Turns out the domestic ones turn invasive! There's a factsheet from City of Edmonton on it.
