@bdovs00 @itsolelehmann I guess my view differs cause I focus on the whole population and not on the average person. I get your point though. Question is, whether you need the extra 10k as an average person (given your numbers), but I guess that's a personal preference.

@variint @itsolelehmann Ok, but you can put a number on everything. Let's say an average American makes an extra $20k per year, and pays $5k less in tax for a net advantage of $25k. If a European receives govt benefits of $15k per year that the American doesn't, the American still comes out 10k ahead.

I'm German. 16 years ago, the EU and US economies were neck and neck. Today, the US economy is 50% larger than the entire EU combined. Here's the devastating truth behind Europe's ongoing economic suicide 🧵:

@bdovs00 @itsolelehmann Not hating the US, just sharing why I think high tax can be good for society - using the US as an example cause it was part of the meme.

@variint @itsolelehmann That's a slanderous libel against the US to make Europeans feel superior. There is nobody going hungry in the country. Not even close. There are food stamps, free meals at schools, not to mention a plethora of charities, that ensure nobody goes hungry.

@EdwardmaherRE @itsolelehmann I do get that in order to get a job in Europe you need to have some specific education, but you learn this from when you are a kid - don't study physics, arts, ... cause you don't get jobs with that.

@bdovs00 @itsolelehmann Sounds like an amazing dream you live in. Maybe talk to the 13.5 percent (18.0 million) of U.S. households that were food insecure at some time during 2023 and ask them about taking loans for university. ers.usda.gov/topics/food-nu…

@variint @itsolelehmann Yes, but lower class have health insurance included in their benefits package at work. Cars are cheap in the US, and people from lower income backgrounds can get student loans, which can lead to upper/middle class salaries. Upward mobility - which Europe doesn't have.

@EdwardmaherRE @itsolelehmann I am not entirely sure whether I get your point. Are there not enough opportunities for waiters and cooks? Or are they engineers/... and don't find jobs in industry? Side note - the grass is always greener on the other side! They should move and experience the un-real pizza.

@variint @itsolelehmann All my Italian friends are waiters and cooks. They get by, but they would rather live in the USA. There is no opportunity there. I lived in Europe 9 years. Love the culture. But there is no opportunity. Taxes and regulations kill opportunity in Europe.

@SkyBlueRyan1880 @itsolelehmann I also enjoy reading the "liberal misinformation" spread by people in the US. If you use a search engine of your choice with "miscarriage death in the us" you get a range of sources: ProPublica, The Guardian, NBC News, ABC News CNN, CBS News

@Ignacio32916719 @itsolelehmann Advantages of the system that you can experience: it's a relatively safe country, low living cost (compared to the US) and high Quality of Life Index (surely dependent on the city). Germany is place 7 according to this random USNews list: usnews.com/news/best-coun…

@bdovs00 @itsolelehmann Are you talking about the salaries of mid-/upper-class people who can afford cars, private healthcare and higher education?

@variint @itsolelehmann US also has free k-12 education. If you're referring to higher education, what good is a free degree if salaries are half of what they are in the US? Same with public transport and healthcare. I'd rather have higher salary and lower tax to pay for a car and private healthcare.

@variint @itsolelehmann With all due respect, that isn’t true. I understand it’s easy to believe because it's been a media talking point over the past few months, but it isn’t accurate.

@Conaclos @bdovs00 @itsolelehmann Imagine a world where people don't even realise how pissed off traffic jams make them and believe cars give them freedom. I don't know what freedom that is, but I don't need it.

@EdwardmaherRE @itsolelehmann Yes, really nice concept. Reduces income inequality. May also be a reason why I haven't met a person struggling while they work 3 jobs before coming to the US. I also don't consider myself "broke" after (not) paying for university and hence can live my 20s financially peaceful.

@itsolelehmann I don't know your Europe, but my piece of Europe has amazing water & food quality, free education, free healthcare and cheap public transport. Also, imagine being a women, not wanting to get pregnant cause in case you have a miscarriage they may let you die in parts of the US🙃

Europe's regulatory culture created an economic spiral of doom: • Talent leaves • Companies avoid investing • Innovation dies • Economy stagnates • More regulation follows This is why memes like "Europoors" exist.
