God forbid ministers appoint their own chiefs of staff. And goodness knows we wouldn’t want ministers’ chiefs of staff reporting to their ministers! Would we want babysitters to report to the children? No, they report to the PM’s chief of staff. This. Is. Not. Normal. It’s not how things are done in other countries. It’s not how things used to be done here. Yet it passes without comment. We are so used to the all-consuming, ever-expanding power of the PMO that we do not even notice how grotesquely overbearing it has become.

When I read the Liberal platform, I said that it put Canada’s AAA credit rating at risk. Turns out I was right. Fitch, a ratings agency, sent out a warning a few hours ago saying that Carney’s plan is a risk to Canada’s AAA credit rating. I didn’t necessarily want to be right, but here it is. Unfortunate that they post this after the election, but it makes sense because this is a serious firms and they would not have wanted to be accused of election interference. Bottom line: the current Liberal plan needs to be modified or it will put the financial viability of the federal government at risk.

I’ve long had serious concerns about Mr. Singh’s leadership—frankly, I believe he’s among the weakest federal politicians in recent memory. Canada is stronger with three viable political parties; they provide essential balance and accountability in our system. While I would never vote for them, I want a healthy, fighting NDP. So no, this isn’t some brave, selfless act. It’s a political nosedive wrapped in spin. And watching him try to frame this unraveling as noble? It’s delusion dressed up as strategy.
