i think a big factor here is that US artist alley merch is priced for profit while JP fanbooks/derivative doujin are usually passion projects and sold at printing cost (which is the unwritten rule to be able to openly sell them and not get hit by copyright from the official too)

i do wish non-JP artist alleys have a fanbook-oriented culture. i KNOW why people sell charms over fanbooks, i know it's expensive to have comics printed in the US, but i hope artists invest in it at least once. at a con i almost always buy someone's comic over their other merch

I grew up speaking a dialect/Creole language that is considered "incorrect"
But if you actually study it, it has a rich history from a mix of cultures. It's not "wrong" at all. But stigma is slowly killing it, and I had to switch to a Standard American accent to teach English

British English and American English have both changed significantly. No one can understand Old English without studying. Language in a new area will change naturally. Otherwise we'd be speaking Proto-Indo-European. The Brits, who have a billion accents/dialects need to sit down.

British people and their insistence that American English is "wrong" just makes them look stupid. Dialect differences and evolution is Linguistics 101. Not to mention, the idea that a dialect is "wrong" is rooted in racism/classism that affects more than Standard American English
