@isnit0 The NI paid during a persons working life should have been invested to cover retirement, thus able to cover the amount required, but instead it has been added to the general tax pot and spent. Unfortunately the system is broken, but it should not be pensioners who pay.

For the retired people in the comments claiming "I paid more than my fair share". Actually, most of you didn't. You're being subsidised by me, my peers, and the children we won't be able to have.

It may seem controversial to some of those over 65. Having a universal payment to all pensioners that is funded by working people, when that group of pensioners have significantly more assets. Most countries don’t do this, it’s like the NHS in that aspect.

You don't need a PhD to understand why people are poor. Poverty goes away when prosperity shows up. And prosperity doesn't fall from the sky or get delivered by a UN truck.  It gets built by entrepreneurs who start businesses, hire people, and create things worth buying.  But those entrepreneurs need somewhere they can actually operate without spending half their life begging for permits and paying fees to people who produce nothing. Countries that get this right get rich. Countries that don't, stay poor.  The whole thing fits on a napkin and yet we've got entire university departments overcomplicating it.
