But if we are going to continue to get value for one of the highest K% pitchers in baseball, I’m not gonna say no. We could make a cute green graph if we wanted to: 7+ Ks in 5/6 Night Games, 7+ Ks in 7/9 games vs. non-Top 10 Whiff% teams. 7+ Ks in 4/5 games vs non Top 15 BB% teams, 7+ Ks with 90+ pitches. But I don’t care about that stuff. What I care about is the matchup, situation, and raw data. Royals are coming into this game ICE COLD vs righties. In the span of 5 days, they let both Gerrit Cole and Jack Leiter get 10+ Ks against them with 0 ER. They haven’t had an Earned Run vs a Righty Starter in 6 days. I watched each of those starts vs Leiter and Cole to see where the issues came for the Royals, and I found it: the Slider. Lieter got a 30 Whiff% with 3 Ks on the slider. Meanwhile, Cole got a 60 Whiff% on his slider with 3 Ks as well. And yes, both featured a high-velocity fastball that was elite in both games. So I looked deeper. Against high-velocity sliders in May vs RHP, the Royals were a bottom-10 team in every major category. Pitchers like Hancock, Severino, and Gray, who feature a sweeper/cutter/slider at a high rate, all had 7+ strikeouts as well vs the Royals in May. All of the Reds' high-leverage arms are OUT today. Abbott and Paddack (the Reds' 2 worst starters this year) are up next in this series. Burns needs to not only go deep but also be efficient. 18 of the last 21 righty starters have pitched in the 6th inning vs the Royals.

Kochanowicz is getting more leash than his command has earned. The run line is plus money because Tampa still has to create margin, and this starter gap is enough for me to ask for it. McClanahan has allowed four earned runs over his last five starts, while Kochanowicz has allowed 22 in his last five. Kochanowicz has walked 31 in 61 1/3 innings against only 45 strikeouts. Tampa's lineup owns a .340 OBP against right-handed pitching, so free traffic does not have to wait for the big swing. Los Angeles has 70 homers, but McClanahan has allowed two all season and hitters are batting .181 against him. On a run line, I want the Angels forced to chain hits together. Tampa is 20-6 at home, and this is the pitching split that lets me play for more than just the win.

McClanahan's last Baltimore look was messier than the final says. The Rays won 16-6, so it is easy to let the box score wash everything else out. McClanahan still gave up six hits and four earned in five innings, and Baltimore made him work enough to get him out after 90 pitches. Bradish already gave Tampa a real look too. He went 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and two earned, and that game was tied into the sixth before the Rays finally broke it open. Tampa's record is doing plenty of work in this number. They are the better season-long team, but this is a quick rematch in Baltimore with both lineups carrying fresh at-bats against the same arms. I am buying the second look at McClanahan and a home dog that only needs the starter gap to be smaller than the logos suggest. Orioles ML (+115).

Yandy is batting 4th today, which is the best spot to rack up HRR. Just a must-play for an early morning cash. PCA WRITEUP I hate this as much as you do. But I cannot ignore the ridiculous value we’re getting here. The book is giving us PCA lines that suggest he’s against a good pitcher at the bottom of the lineup, like he has been for weeks. But Counsell has put PCA at the top of the lineup today. On the road, there is a high chance PCA gets 5 at-bats against a Pirates pitching staff that is due for some regression. Mlodinski has been awful vs LHH this season, giving up a .327 BA and a 55% Hard Hit rate. That’s the one thing you can always rely on from PCA: his hard hit ability. With the Pirates' bad defensive outfield, PCA can make any hit out there a double and get into scoring position with the heart of the Cubs order coming up.
