Senate Democrats blocked a Republican proposal to investigate Massachusetts’ skyrocketing electric rates — which have jumped from ~$140 to $250/month — during Wednesday’s budget debate, deferring the issue to a future energy bill.

PASSED: Amendment 144, filed by Sen. Robyn Kennedy, directs taxpayer funds to Worcester RISE Clinic for "refugee and immigrant support." Attempts to increase local aid for cities and towns this budget fell on deaf ears, but lawmakers found the money for this. Just another example of how the budget keeps expanding through targeted add-ons instead of real fiscal discipline.

For the record: Auditor @DianaDiZoglio specified the documents she needed in writing all the way back in 2025. The Supreme Judicial Court confirmed this when the AG’s office tried to argue otherwise in the recent hearing. 🚨 After the Bullets, Cambridge Turns Off the Alarm Last night, Cambridge City Council voted to end its use of ShotSpotter, even after Police Commissioner Pauline Wells practically begged them not to shut it off. This comes after one of the city’s most brazen recent shootings, when a gunman fired 60 rounds on Memorial Drive. Wells told councilors that Cambridge police had taken three additional illegally possessed loaded firearms off the streets in just two weeks, including weapons with large-capacity magazines. In each case, she said the people carrying them were convicted felons who never should have had guns in their hands. She also warned that there have been “at least 11 times” when ShotSpotter detected gunfire in Cambridge and not a single 911 call came in. Despite Wells’s warning that “lucky is not a strategy,” the council voted to shut it off anyway.

OPINION:The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission, the independent state agency that disciplines law enforcement officers, closed the investigation into FRPD's questionable search warrant on April 30, taking no further action. After resisting any investigation for weeks, the City of Fall River went through the motions of a very limited and barely documented HR instigation and sent biased letter to POST, who decided no further action was needed. Does that mean that the FRPD has been cleared? By POST and the Mayor's office, which means they both approve police departments using search warrants to dox people who post mild comments on Facebook. It also means POST and the Mayor's office are fine with the FRPD blatantly ignoring state law regarding search warrants being returned within 7 days.

The town of Rutland Massachusetts has canceled its huge annual Fourth of July celebration that has been happening in Rutland for over 100 years! Last week the residents of Rutland voted down a massive override that would’ve resulted in huge property tax increases for many of the residents. This includes senior citizens that cannot afford the increase. Today residence of Rutland learned that the town has decided to cancel the Fourth of July festivities this year. Yes this is the 250th anniversary of our country! July 4th festivities in Rutland have always been funded by private donations. They are telling the residence that this is not a money problem, they are saying that we don’t have enough police officers and first responders to staff the festivities. They are blaming this on the failed override. In past years, most of these essential workers have been brought from other communities to help manage this large annualevent in Rutland. Shame on the corrupt politicians that are using a failed override vote to punish citizens of Central Massachusetts and Rutland! It’s just another day and the people’s Republic of Massachusetts!
