@Pirat_Nation 99.9% of 3D printing hobbyist don’t care about this drama because it doesn’t affect them. Bambu Lab has the best quality 3D printers in the market. All others are trying to dethrone them.

Josef Prusa of Prusa Research has raised serious concerns about Bambu Lab’s Bambu Studio slicer software.
The program, a fork of the open-source PrusaSlicer, incorporates a closed-source networking plugin that Prusa describes as an unauditable “black box” downloaded from a CDN and capable of remote replacement.
Prusa says this is dangerous because Chinese laws require companies to help their intelligence agencies and share encryption keys, and slicers handle sensitive 3D design files used in research labs, universities, and defense work.
He also claims that Bambu Lab is breaking the open-source license rules by adding this closed part.

@repkord I was smoothing ABS with acetone in a pot. Afterwards I had a whole pot full of acetone. One time I thought "what if?" So I dropped a match in from a safe distance and... unimpressive. Just the top layer lit on fire. But it was getting hot so I decided to blow it out. FWOOMP!

@rms80 The number of napkins drawings I've had people hand me and expect to get a card drawing from. Let's hand those to the AI and see what they come up with.

Keep seeing this kind of nonsense about AI X-to-CAD. Guess how you would make these input drawings? That’s right you use CAD software. Unless you don’t care about dimensions, I guess…
Text-to-CAD also deeply questionable…unless you have an extremely detailed written spec?

No it’s done by computers People hate AI because it’s marketed as fear and people are scared Our video editors are using AI to build software to get them a quicker rough cut. Then they can spend more time editing and building the storyline. AI as a tool is quite great

First things first this is sick.
Second things second, I do think it’s notable that while tech companies keep insisting that AI creation is the future of media, the media that always performs the best is the stuff that is proven to be made by creative people.
If your product is so poorly received by the public that a whole industry feels compelled to prove they DO NOT USE IT, then it’s probably not the future of media.

AI is like a vending machine that you don't get to pick what it dispenses. Sometimes it's a tofu turkey, sometimes it's a twinky. Sometimes it's a cold dog turd. Either way it's taking the same tokens.

The geometry and materials and light placement are all made by a human. The computer's contribution is deterministic and predictable. So it's not AI.
AI is a tool that makes decisions for us that we have no control over.

This can be confusing because the term AI has been used since the 60s to mean anything from chess algorithms to search engine's bot crawling. But that's not what folks are talking about now.

@ZombieHedgehog_ Ease of use had always been a priority for me. You're not going to use a 3d printer that's hard to use. It's why my CNC machine sits mostly unused. It ain't easy to use, despite the fact that it's huge.

What 9 years of constant use can do to a drive gear. The @Raise3D N2 Plus at the library where I work started having feed issues. Turns out it's because 9 years of constant use has worn out the toothed drive gear.
Honestly, that ain't a bad run. And it's an easy fix.
