Salaries are about to be revolutionized in Brazil through new government legislation. While institutional crypto expands, there is still some barriers to onboarding crypto pay-roll solutions for employees. In Brazil, they are tackling the issues of public opinion and regulation by introducing a bill that allows employees to ask for up to 50% of their salary to be paid in crypto (except for foreign remote workers, who can have 100% of their salary paid in crypto). The exchange rate must align with the rate issued by the Central Bank of Brazil, protecting employees from potential fraud or price manipulation from their employers. Crypto is booming in Brazil. This was noted recently by the country's Central Bank, explaining that 90% of that recent surge has been in stablecoins. This not only shows a real embracing of digital assets in the country, but also a desire to balance the new opportunities with security. By incorporating the rule that at least 50% of salary still needs to be paid in Brazilian real, this bill also acknowledges this is a desire for financial stability and predictability. With Brazil being the tenth largest economy, this will be an interesting change to watch. Crypto regulation in Brazil is friendly, but incorporating it deeper into day to day life will be both an opportunity and a challenge for institutions in the country.
