As mental health emergencies continue to rise across Israel amid the ongoing effects of war and trauma, Magen David Adom and Israel’s Health Ministry launched a new mental health emergency response initiative, further demonstrating MDA’s leadership in building national resilience and caring for both mind and body.
The specialized units include trained paramedics, mental health nurses, and access to psychiatric consultation, ensuring patients receive compassionate, professional care during moments of crisis.
The program follows a successful pilot that reduced unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations and lowered the use of forced sedation and restraints, marking an important step forward in emergency mental health care.

Shabbat Shalom to the MDA teams who saved Asher’s life as missile sirens sounded across Kiryat Yam.
During Friday night prayers, 74-year-old Asher Kassus went into cardiac arrest after asking a neighbor for help. Guided by MDA dispatch, CPR began immediately as MDA teams rushed to the scene.
Even as rockets from Lebanon triggered sirens during Operation Roaring Lion, the team continued lifesaving efforts and successfully restored Asher’s pulse.
Weeks later, Asher reunited with the medics who saved his life, a powerful reminder of MDA’s unwavering dedication to saving lives, no matter the circumstances.

More than 100 people gathered at the Geller Chabad Family Center in Lyndhurst on May 3 for a deeply meaningful ambulance dedication in support of lifesaving efforts in Israel.
Together, the Geller, Baskind, and Hendlin families dedicated a new BLS ambulance in honor of the heroes who gave everything to save others, including Magen David Adom paramedic Amit Mann, who was tragically killed on October 7 while treating patients, and Ariel, an IDF soldier who fell in Gaza.
Inspired by a moving story shared by Aryeh Myers at a parlor meeting hosted by National Board Member Barry Feldman, this dedication stands as a powerful tribute to courage, sacrifice, and the enduring mission to save lives.

In the aftermath of October 7, Dr. Adam Berkovits, DO and Dr. Richard Feldstein went to Israel to volunteer with Magen David Adom.
There, they met medics in Kochav Hashachar working tirelessly with an outdated ambulance, one that desperately needed to be replaced. It was a moment that stayed with them long after they returned home.
Dr. Feldstein and his son began raising funds through his Bar Mitzvah to donate an ambulance. At the same time, Dr. Berkovits, grieving the loss of his brother, was searching for a meaningful way to give back.
Through the power of partnership, they proudly donated a lifesaving ambulance to the community closest to their hearts.
Dedicated at IAC 78 in Las Vegas, the ambulance will now serve the very place that inspired it.

In honor of International Day of the Midwife, celebrated today:
“I always dreamed of becoming a midwife in order to be part of those who contribute to building the future of the State of Israel.”
For Gila, that dream became a lifelong mission. From Pennsylvania to Jerusalem, and from the delivery room to emergency response, she has dedicated her life to bringing new life into the world, wherever and whenever it’s needed most.
As part of MDA’s unique initiative, midwives like Gila are on call to support births beyond hospital walls, providing critical care, calm, and expertise in some of life’s most urgent moments. From the beginning of 2026, MDA teams have treated thousands of pregnant women and assisted in hundreds of births at home and in transit, ensuring both mothers and newborns receive the care they need.
Behind every birth is a story, and behind so many of those stories are midwives whose compassion and skill make all the difference.

Jeffrey Green reached his 100th blood donation this week in Be’er Sheva.
He started donating at 18 and kept going, every few months, for years. After moving to Israel at 27, it simply became part of his life.
For this milestone, his family came with him, and donated too.
“I don’t feel special,” he said. “Almost everyone has the opportunity and the ability to save lives.”
Blood can’t be manufactured. It depends on people choosing to give.
100 donations is a big number, but the idea behind it is straightforward: show up, when you can.
