The AFN Nuclear Waste Management Forum is officially underway in Ottawa! The morning's opening ceremonies started with a prayer from Elder Verna McGregor and a welcome to the territory from Chief Greg Sarazin of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, and Jamie Lavigne, Acting Senior Director of the Environment, Water, & Justice Sector at AFN, and a member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. The AFN welcomes Chief Justice Glenn Joyal’s landmark decision, which confirms that Canada and Manitoba violated First Nations’ constitutionally protected right to self-governance in child welfare.
