For a long time we have inappropriately been giving abx for liver pts. Here are yet more data. Practice will be changing and more is to come on this. But GI investigators, stop looking at UTIs. They are usually misdiagnosed. Focus on more accurate Dx.

Blood culture-negative endocarditis (BCNE) Causes of BCNE: 1. Previous Antibiotic Use: The most common cause of BCNE is the administration of antibiotics before blood cultures are taken, which can suppress bacterial growth in the blood.

5 years on from lockdown and history has been rewritten. I'm here to remind you what actually happened. For example ; Hospitals in London ran out of oxygen to give to patients, such was the flood of patients with respiratory failure resulting from Covid.

Making mRNA a dirty word is sadly one of the greatest achievements of the anti science anti vaccine movement. In reality mRNA vaccines are scientific genius and an amazing breakthrough.
Dr. Catharine Young@DrCatharineY

The NIH has reportedly advised scientists to remove references to mRNA vaccine technology from grant applications, signaling a potential shift away from this research field. As a reminder mRNA vaccine technology is one of the most groundbreaking advancements in modern medicine.

Top 5 advances in medical science this week (🧵) 1. Potential for year-long HIV protection in one dose Lenacapavir prevents HIV with 99.9-100% efficacy when given twice per year - this is a new formulation that allows it to be given just once per year Lenacapavir is not a vaccine - it's a long-acting anti-retroviral that stops HIV from establishing infection This is a phase 1 trial, so there’s no efficacy data, but the drug's plasma concentration stayed at higher levels than the 6-monthly formulation that achieved ≥99.9% efficacy, without safety concerns The dose needs to be optimised, and it has to progress further through trials, but this has potential to expand access to an extremely effective tool for HIV prevention thelancet.com/journals/lance…

#IDtwitter #IDXpost this is something I have been worried for a while. My micro lab does not usually test for ertapenem R and most extrapolate susceptibility from meropenem and prefer to use Erta for OPAT because is more convenient @BradSpellberg @DrToddLee @ABsteward @wwrighID
