@ajjuliani It’s always surprised me how complicated some make device management. If you don’t want devices out, have students put them away—if they don’t, take them. I did that during a visit, and the teachers looked at me like I was an alien.

Anyone find it odd that the only viral articles these publications can write about education is the removing of devices? You know what the great thing is about a laptop? You can just keep it closed whenever you don’t want to use it. And can open when you want to use it with a purpose.

For more than a decade, a seventh-grade math teacher used technology in his classroom. This year, he took the Chromebooks away—and quickly learned how the computers were holding his students back, Jenny Anderson writes. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/…

@ajjuliani Nah, the anti screens crusade just magically coincides with the rise of things like Alpha Timeback, and MathAcademy. They are terrified.

“Billy, this is Jackson Smith. He’s a fantastic shortstop. He can reach first in 3.8 seconds, and has never hit below .600 in his life. His only defect is he can’t read above a 3rd grade level, and needs ChatGPT to understand basic concepts.”

The Bennett School is the first high school and middle school sports academy of its kind in the Houston area. Utilizing the Alpha School curriculum — a two-hours-per-day learning model powered by artificial intelligence — students are able to complete the academic portion of their day in the morning and spend the afternoon focusing on baseball development. 🔗bit.ly/4c4fME6

Better than IMG. (Our baseball team just beat them) Bigger than IMG. (2,000+ students across Texas in 2026) #1 in hoops. Alpha School academics. Texas ESAs made this possible. 👇

@jliemandt TSA is such a good answer re: what to do with afternoons As you solve standards-based education, I’m betting these thematic schools will really start to explode

Houston Chronicle just profiled The Bennett School - Houston's first high school sports academy powered by Texas Sports Academy. The model: 2 hours of AI-powered learning. Rest of the day: elite baseball development. The results: • 24-4 record, #1 in Texas • Beat IMG Academy • Players committed to Texas, Oklahoma State, Rice Academically? Students are outperforming in a fraction of the time. Texas Sports Academy is expanding across the state - new schools, new sports, new cities. You don't have to choose between being a great student 📚 and a great athlete. ⚾

@ajjuliani This ignores the inherent assumption that a 2nd grader needs access at all. There is no need do access in Elementary school.

Just an FYI you are not going to “solve” or “fix” K-12 education by banning devices. Just like you were never going to “solve” or “fix” K-12 education by adding devices. Most 1-to-1 initiatives were about providing access to those who did not have access. If we chose to use devices as digital pacifiers that was on us, not the kids.
