95% of the Year 2 kindergarten students at our school are at or above benchmark on Acadience Middle of Year screening. If that isn’t an endorsement for explicit and systematic phonics instruction (we use @UFLiteracy) I don’t know what is.

In tonight's Next STEPS book study focused on chapter 3 (phoneme awareness), participants analysed a student's writing sample to better understand their phonemic awareness, and generate plans for instruction. As @liv2learn says - spelling is visible language!
