📊 Today, OMCT and its #SOSTorture Network launches the #GlobalTortureIndex — a groundbreaking tool that exposes the risk of torture and ill-treatment in 26 countries across the world 🌍. 🗓️ Despite 175 countries ratifying the UN Convention Against Torture, the practice remains widespread — in police stations, prisons, protests, armed conflict zones, and routine law enforcement operations. During a mission to Rio Branco, state of Acre in #Brazil, APT discussed with the judiciary, public defenders and academia the implementation of detention control hearings based on data collected in our online platform Observa Custodia.

The APT held a series of meetings in Rio Branco, the capital of Acre in #Brazil, to support the state-level Preventive Mechanism in fulfilling its mandate. During the four-day mission, the APT provided technical advice on Brazil’s anti-torture policy and legal obligations.

In Libreville, APT had a productive discussion with Gabon's Minister of Interior on advancing torture prevention. We welcome ongoing efforts to establish an NPM and strengthen detention safeguards.
