Vocabulary is now ableist? This was a thread that went viral in a corner of the internet and I was very pleasantly surprised to see how many people came out in defensive of language. This is something I speak about often, and as someone who posts a lot of content on social media, I’m often chastised for using “excessively fluffy language.” Meant as an insult of course, it’s simply a self own, given highlighting a low ceiling on your lexicon is not quite the flex one would think it is. I hope I can inspire you to pick up books again, particularly difficult ones and persist in challenging yourself. Grab a physical dictionary (not your phone, I know you’ll get distracted!) and enjoy using more precise language to communicate.
