Very pleased to join the #GLOBSEC Forum in a panel discussion on #enlargement and current trends. 🇦🇱🇪🇺 The EU #accession process remains our top national priority. It lies at the heart of our development drive, has continuously guided our reforms, strengthened our institutions, and helped transform Albania into a functioning democracy grounded in the rule of law. We have come a long way and we know what it takes to earn EU membership. For us, EU accession is a #two-way process. The opening of all 33 negotiation chapters in record time reflects two sides of the same coin: on one hand, our unwavering determination to deliver reforms faithfully and consistently in a merit-based process; on the other, the clarity of vision and political commitment of EU institutions and Member States. This shared effort is what makes the process and its progress tangible, credible, and real. Our #ambition and focus are clear: to continue and consolidate an irreversible reform path, moving closer to our objective every day. In this regard, the upcoming eighth Intergovernmental Conference (IGC8) with #Albania on the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR), scheduled for 26 May 2026, will mark another key milestone in the EU accession process. It will confirm the fulfilment of the interim benchmarks by Albania and to set closing benchmarks for Cluster 1 'The Fundamentals' EU #enlargement has always been an investment in Europe’s security and resilience. Today, this has become an imperative. That is why we support and embrace gradual integration, the “access before accession” approach, where, as we move closer to EU membership by 2030, citizens and businesses can already feel the tangible benefits of integration along the way. A reliable and committed partner, fully aligned with the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, standing firmly with Ukraine, and contributing actively within NATO, #Albania will continue to play a responsible and constructive role in strengthening collective security, stability, and resilience, in the #WesternBalkans region and beyond. #Horizon2030 #Together

Very pleased to meet in #Prague with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Prishtina Dialogue, Peter Sørensen @EUSR_Dialogue, on the margins of the #GLOBSEC Forum. I expressed our appreciation for the European Union’s continued engagement and sustained support for democratic consolidation, institutional strengthening, rule of law reforms, and economic development in the Republic of Kosova. #Kosova remains firmly anchored on its European path, clearly oriented toward EU integration and fully aligned with the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy. Albania believes that this consistent commitment deserves proper recognition and should be met with the granting of EU candidate country status to Kosovo, an important and encouraging political signal for its citizens and for the broader European future of the region. Continued engagement by the EU and the #EUSR remains essential, and Albania fully supports these efforts. Building and sustaining trust between the parties is fundamental to the success of the #Dialogue. In this context, I reiterated the importance of ensuring full accountability for the attack in Banjska, essential for strengthening security, trust, and stability in the region. I also reiterated that the Dialogue remains the only viable path toward the full #normalization of relations between Kosova and Serbia, representing an essential contribution to a new chapter in relations between the two #neighbouring countries, and to lasting peace, stability, and cooperation across the wider region. #Albania will continue to strongly support this process and remains ready to contribute constructively.

#Albania 🇦🇱 stands in full solidarity with #Latvia 🇱🇻 and firmly condemens Russia’s recent threats and false accusations. The threatening language directed at Latvia by the Russian Federation at the United Nations Security Council, including insinuations regarding the use of force, is irresponsible, unacceptable, and deeply concerning. Such hostile rhetoric and intimidation undermine regional stability, #European security, and the principles of international law. As reaffirmed during the recent @NATO Ministerial Meeting in #Helsingborg, Allied unity, solidarity, and resolve remain ironclad and are more essential than ever. @Latvian_MFA

Today at the @NATO Informal Meeting of Foreign Ministers in #Helsingborg, I reaffirmed Albania's unwavering commitment to NATO values, strengthening the transatlantic link and to increasing defence investment, in line with Allied commitments. Our 2026 defence budget represents the most ambitious level of investment since Albania joined the Alliance, contributing to stronger national capabilities and collective security. I reiterated our full support for #Ukraine as a cornerstone of European security and the continuation of assistance through NATO mechanisms. In this context, I informed Allies that on 12 June, I will co-host in Tirana, together with Minister @andrii_sybiha, the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Ministerial Meeting, an important platform to strengthen political dialogue, enhance regional coordination, and reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, security, and stability in Europe. I also stressed the importance of a 360-degree approach to #security, strengthening cooperation with Euro-Atlantic partners, and maintaining a strong focus on stability in the Middle East and the #WesternBalkans. Albania remains fully engaged in supporting regional stability, including through Allied discussions on the future of #KFOR and #NATO's cooperation with #Kosovo. A friendly and productive first meeting with @Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, on the margins of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in #Helsingborg. Building on the recent visit of Prime Minister @ediramaal to Tallinn, we had an excellent exchange on Albania’s accession path to the European Union, the very strong bilateral relations between our countries, and our shared desire to further expand cooperation in areas of common interest. In particular, we discussed Estonia’s remarkable experience in digitalisation, innovation, and the transformation of public services and daily governance, areas where #Albania is keen to deepen cooperation and benefit from #Estonia’s expertise to further strengthen efficiency, transparency, and citizen-oriented public administration. We also exchanged views on the security situation in the region and on our common efforts, including as #NATO Allies, to further strengthen collective resilience and coordination in addressing shared challenges, including in cyberspace through the Security Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, which Albania joined recently. 🇦🇱🇪🇪 #Horizon2030 #WeAreNATO

The images shared by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir showing the humiliating treatment of detained #flotilla activists are shocking and unacceptable. All persons detained must be treated with dignity and in full respect of human rights, international law, and humanitarian law. I have instructed our #Embassy in Tel Aviv to remain in close contact and coordination with the Israeli authorities in order to ensure that appropriate consular assistance is provided to our citizen, as needed and in full compliance with international law.

Pleasure to meet with the Randy Davies, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Albania. Within the UN #CountryTeam, UNDP has played a key role in supporting Albania’s development priorities, closely aligned with our EU #accession process and the Agenda for Sustainable Development. As we prepare for the presentation of Albania’s Voluntary National Review at the High-Level Political Forum in New York in July 2026, we remain committed to further strengthening our cooperation with #UNDP across key priority areas, including human capital development, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment. #Horizon2030

For more than three decades, the @coe has been a key strategic partner for #Albania, providing expertise and tailored support to advance reforms in critical areas such as justice, good governance, media freedom, and the protection of fundamental rights, support for which we are grateful. As Albania’s journey toward #EU accession accelerates, we are intensifying our cooperation with all relevant partners, including the Council of Europe, to further strengthen the implementation of our EU accession commitments and reinforce democratic institutions and the rule of law. In this context, the upcoming event in Strasbourg on 28 May represents an important opportunity to demonstrate that Albania is delivering concrete and measurable results, an essential element also in the framework of the post-monitoring dialogue with Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The synergies between the Council of Europe’s normative framework and the European Union’s enlargement process create a coherent, complementary, and mutually reinforcing roadmap for sustainable reform and democratic consolidation, one that Albania is fully committed to advancing and fully capitalising on along its path toward EU #membership. 🇦🇱🇪🇺 #Horizon2030 #HorizontalFacility

Very engaging and productive exchange today with the #Ambassadors of the European Union Member States in Albania. We discussed the ongoing reform process, as well as the full range of issues shaping current Albania–EU relations, in particular the ongoing #negotiation process and the next steps ahead. Among other, we agreed on the importance of strengthened communication and public outreach on the European accession process, both in #Albania and in #EU Member States, in order to further enhance understanding and public support. EU #enlargement has always been equally important for candidate countries and for the European Union itself, as it strengthens shared stability, security, prosperity, and democratic resilience across the continent, while reinforcing the Union’s strategic role and credibility. I thanked them for their continued support to Albania’s European path and reassured them of our firm commitment to pursue and deepen the reforms required on our journey toward European Union membership. It was a pleasure to host today H.E. Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar. 🇦🇱🇶🇦 Our discussions reaffirmed the excellent relations, mutual trust, and strong partnership between our two countries, as well as our shared commitment to further deepening and expanding bilateral cooperation. We agreed that increased exchanges, particularly at the high level, provide important momentum for advancing cooperation and exploring new opportunities of mutual interest. We highlighted the significant potential for business in both countries, including by expanding #Qatari investments in #Albania across key sectors such as transport, energy, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, and education. To this end, our governments will maintain intensive political and technical dialogue aimed at advancing concrete joint projects, facilitating investments, and strengthening people-to-people contacts. We also exchanged views on #regional and #international developments and reaffirmed our common interest in preserving stability, promoting dialogue, and fostering sustainable development and prosperity in our respective regions and beyond. I was pleased to address this morning the 11th OSCE South-East Europe Media Conference, “Strengthening #Journalism as a Public Good”, which is taking place in #Tirana. #Albania remains firmly committed to strengthening media freedom, protecting the safety of journalists, promoting #MediaPluralism, and further aligning with European #standards as part of our #EU accession path. At a time when the media landscape has become increasingly complex and challenging everywhere, we will continue working to foster an environment where free, independent, professional, and ethical journalism can genuinely thrive, where media freedom is not only protected, but continuously strengthened, renewed, and defended. In an era marked by disinformation, polarization and rapidly evolving digital realities, safeguarding the integrity and independence of journalism is more important than ever. A safer and more enabling environment for journalists and media professionals is essential not only for stronger democratic institutions and greater public trust, but also for more resilient, informed, and healthier societies. We highly value our cooperation with the #OSCE and other international partners to advancing these shared principles, in supporting a safer, freer, and more resilient #media landscape across the region. #SEEMC2026
