I get the point you’re making, but the analogy breaks down when you follow the incentives. Using the highway example, if those maintaining the road were also collecting fees from every vehicle using it, then it might make sense to expect them to absorb losses. But Litecoin Foundation doesn’t collect fees or any other revenue from activity on the road. Independent operators choose how to use it, set their own risk and safety policies, and capture the upside. It doesn’t follow that an entity with no participation in that upside should be expected to cover the downside.

I agree with basically all of that. I would caution against the decentralization catch-all excuse though. It can't be Schrödinger's Litecoin: both decentralized and therefore absolved of all responsibility, and yet the community and chain malfunctioning shouldn't be blamed when bad things happen. If a highway is maintained, you get upset when there's potholes that damage your vehicle, and may want to get compensated. If it's unmaintained, it can be seen as massively risky to use, and will be avoided in favor of more explicitly-maintained solutions. Something to think about.

Claims that Litecoin Foundation considers this behavior “normal” are incorrect. As outlined in our postmortem, the activity occurred on an invalid chain that was later reorged out. Independent platforms such as NEAR Intents operate their own services, facilitate transactions, and generate revenue from those activities. With that comes responsibility for system design, risk management, settlement policies, and monitoring of network conditions. Litecoin is an open, permissionless network. @LTCFoundation is a nonprofit that does not operate the network or custody user funds, does not operate third-party services, and does not determine or influence their confirmation thresholds or risk decisions. Accordingly, the Foundation will not assume financial responsibility for such losses. Service providers executing these transactions, and generating revenue from them, bear responsibility for their outcomes.

Litecoin update: • A zero-day bug caused a DoS attack that disrupted major mining pools. • Non-updated mining nodes allowed an invalid MWEB transaction allowing them to peg out coins to third party DEX’s • A 13-block reorg reversed those invalid transactions — they will not be included in the main chain • All valid transactions during that period remain unaffected • The bug is now fully patched, and the network continues to operate normally

My mother had a heart attack this week. It's been a Rollercoaster of emotions. Partners, organizing, testnet, praying for my mom.. She had some procedures to check her heart out. They thought she might need a stent, and went in and didn't find any blockages, but they say her heart took some damage. She's in recovery, and has many life changes she needs to make. Very thankful she is doing well. Very thankful Litecoin L2 / LitVM's LiteForge has been so successful. Slightly behind on DMs, but don't worry, everything is going to work out. I can feel it.
