Kosova rose from the ashes of war to become a sovereign, democratic, and secure country because our people refused to give up. We see the same strength today in Ukraine.
Four years after Russia’s attempted conquest of Ukraine, we stand with the people of Ukraine, in empathy and solidarity. The citizens of Kosova know the pain of displacement and loss — and we also know that countries can be rebuilt and healed, and can emerge stronger. We believe that Ukraine will do the same.
You are not alone.

On the 18th anniversary of our independence, the Republic of Kosova is stronger than ever. With unprecedented democratic progress, the fastest growing economy in the region, an ever-strengthening military, we have much to be proud of for what we have achieved, and even more to look forward to in the years to come. Happy Independence Day to all of our citizens at home and abroad, and to the international allies and partners who continue to contribute to our success.

It was a pleasure to meet with a bipartisan U.S. delegation consisting of Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Murphy, Thom Tillis, and Ruben Gallego. We discussed Kosova’s progress, which is evident both democratically and economically. We also spoke about Kosova’s clear commitment to joining the European Union and expressed our gratitude to the United States, an indispensable ally. I emphasized that, regarding relations with Serbia, Milan Radoicic must be handed over to face justice, the Basic Agreement must be signed, and the letter from Brnabic, which in written form denies the territorial integrity of our country, must be withdrawn. These steps would ensure accountability and sustainability in the process of normalizing relations.

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of the 6 million Jews and millions of others who were murdered by the Nazi regime and their collaborators — the horrific acts that finally led to the international recognition of the crime of genocide. As survivors of the last genocide of the twentieth century, the people of Kosova hold a special sympathy for the victims of the Holocaust, and are well placed to understand the significance of that eternal maxim: "Never Again".
